The Produce Buying Manager prepares buying decisions in order to develop the sales and profitability of the business taking into account market information, quality, and commercial considerations by effectively managing staff within the department. The Produce Buying Manager will report directly to the Corporate Buying Director(s) for Produce.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Develop, motivate, and manage direct report(s)
  • Define, implement, and/or execute policies and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of department
  • Provide Buying Director with supplier/product information essential for successful negotiation
  • Communicate with the divisions to ensure timely and efficient information flow
  • Present Buying Director with proposals on costs on items, the listing and delisting of suppliers and products, contract quantities, contract duration, and recommends price changes
  • Verify supplier contracts are prepared with correct information in accordance with company policy
  • Address and facilitate resolution of customer complaints that have reached corporate level
  • Analyze data, trends, market changes and be able to make recommendations as a result
  • Prepare thorough and accurate reports
  • Conduct market place, competitor, and price research
  • Visit suppliers and trade fairs when needed
  • Ensure adherence to all legal requirements in his/her area of responsibility
  • Assist with the design and packaging of product and cases
  • Arranges and participates in sampling sessions
  • Authorize invoice payments

In addition to the duties detailed above, it is the Produce Buying Manager’s responsibility to carry out tasks requested by his/her superior, which are of the nature of his/her job description, or deemed to be a necessity of the business.

Education: 

Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field, and a minimum of 5 years experience within the produce industry.  The applicant's most recent experience should be with produce growers or distributors in category or supply chain management.
