Produce Analyst

Job Description: 

The primary objective of the Supply Chain Department is to support our restaurants by sourcing the highest quality foods and ensuring a sustainable, safe, and cost-effective supply from farm to restaurant. This position is part of a team responsible for Food with Integrity (FWI) which constantly works to source better food. The department is empowered to proactively seek new FWI ideas and to grow the sustainable practices of Chipotle suppliers with increased transparency throughout the supply chain.

Working with Produce team members, the Produce Analyst manages the daily activities related to Produce supply, cost, and quality. He/she also contributes to all FWI initiatives that are part of the broader Produce Program. The Analyst will be based out of either Denver, CO or Salinas, CA.

Responsibilities:
In addition to following Chipotle’s policies and procedures, principal responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Procuring Extraordinary Food:

  • Researching, updating, and maintaining weekly supply and quality updates for all local produce items
  • Providing sourcing for events and concepts as requested by the Culinary team (e.g., ShopHouse, Cultivate, misc Marketing events, etc.)
  • Working with our produce suppliers on a weekly basis in order to maintain supply, reduce cost, and ensure quality across all of our commodities
  • Working with produce suppliers to examine food quality issues and mitigate any supply gaps in the supply chain
  • Investigating proposals for Chipotle to support potential partners in our FWI initiatives (e.g., determining feasibility, researching cost, developing budgets, etc.
  • Reconciling avocado pricing on a weekly basis
  • Managing the data capture received from Armada, and having final oversight on its accuracy
  • Assisting with daily quality issue notifications from the QA/FS staff
  • Assisting with distribution center issues surrounding produce
  • Conducting site/farm visits to our contract grower community to form relationships and learn about their crop (minimum of 2 visits per year)

Miscellaneous:

  • Fielding Customer Service inquiries regarding Produce Program as well as proactively communicating local and organic initiatives to relevant communities
  • Attending industry events, conferences, and seminars to stay current on trends and new products

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have and be able to articulate a passion for food and be interested in a long-term career in Produce Procurement
  • Be a responsible, directed, dependable, self-starter with a can-do attitude, boundless energy, and a thirst for constant improvement
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Work well in a team environment
  • Have the ability to execute projects independently
  • Have the ability to use a PC and utilize Excel, Word, and other software necessary for data entry and reporting
  • Have strong analytical skills and be able to collect and clearly analyze data and report research results
  • Thrive in a fast-moving environment and be able to travel occasionally to our supplier/grower community
  • Have a B.S./B.A. in a related field with one (1) to three (3) years’ experience in Produce Procurement, Food Systems, Sustainability, land-stewardship, or as a grower; or an equivalent in education and experience
