Job Description: 

We are currently seeking a Transportation Manager in the Bay Area. This individual will manage and oversee routing, dispatch, warehouse, shipping and fleet maintenance and management. Direct responsibility for the supervision of the dispatcher and all drivers, in addition to the overall supervision of the operations staff. Assists in all operations functions when needed. Conducts interviews and administers annual performance evaluations for all drivers. Conducts safety meetings for the drivers.

Responsibilities & Duties: 

Transportation Management

  • Supervises dispatcher and ensures all duties are carried out promptly and efficiently.
  • Ensures that deliveries and Programs Department concerns are handled promptly and efficiently. Looks at new delivery sites to ensure deliveries can be made with General Managers assistant.
  • Participates in problem solving with Programs Department and Operations Manager on delivery/routing/ delivery time issues and ensures corrective actions are taken.
  • Works closely with Purchasing to schedule pick-ups of products.
  • Arranges in advance with Development Department the drivers needed to assist at special events to avoid any disruption to the normal delivery schedule.
  • Understands the routing and can fill in when dispatcher absent.
  • Manage labor and make sure drivers are on DOT compliance.
  • Fleet Management
  • Manages preventative maintenance program through regularly scheduled vehicle inspections to ensure compliance to DOT and BIT program regulations.
  • Schedules regular vehicle maintenance including oil changes, battery checks, tire repair, brake adjustment, and any maintenance needs to guarantee the safe operation of the Food Bank's fleet.
  • Secures replacement rental vehicles, as necessary, to avoid disruption of delivery schedule.
  • Ensures that all proper vehicle registrations, insurance documents and internal accident reports are included in each vehicle's Accident Binder.
  • Ensures that all drivers maintain the cleanliness of interior and exterior of fleet.
  • Conducts accident investigation for any accident involving Daylight Foods vehicles ensuring that accident reporting procedures are followed and corrective actions are taken.
  • Conducts new driver safety orientation and monthly safety trainings for drivers.
  • Maintains an inventory of supplies (oil, fluids etc.) on hand at all times.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned
Qualifications: 
  • Three years in the trucking industry, warehousing, and direct supervision experience required.
  • At least three years of fleet maintenance preferred.
  • Ability to motivate, organize, and supervise individuals.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of government regulations pertaining to transportation.
  • Computer literate with experience using Microsoft Word, Excel and database, GPS systems.
  • Strong knowledge of San Francisco and the Bay Area preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and sometimes stressful environment, while keeping an affable demeanor.
  • Experience in the use of all material handling equipment in a safe and responsible manner. Forklift certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely, and strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to work and interact well with individuals (staff and volunteers) from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Valid California driver's Class B license (air brakes) preferred.
  • Must have the ability to reach, twist, squat, climb, and lift 50 pounds.
  • Working floor manager.
