Job Description: 

DLJ Produce was founded in 1993 with the goal of bridging the communication and building partnerships among growers, shippers, retailers and foodservice customers.  Currently DLJ Produce ships to more than 20 states, and several countries and has working relationships with more than 100 shippers around the world.  The DLJ Produce import program represents over 10 countries globally with year-round shipments available.  The DLJ Produce domestic program along with the import program allows DLJ to provide year-round fresh products featuring sales and marketing expertise to our many supply partners.

DLJ Produce has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Logistics Transportation Supervisor.  The ideal candidate will have previous experience taking incoming phone calls from drivers and coordinate them with the information about shipments assigned to them.  This includes pickup and delivery information, loading time and locations, directions to locations and freight information. You must be detail oriented, have excellent communication and problem solving skills. Must be available to work a flexible schedule with possible long hours.

Requirements:

  • Ability to be available via phone to answer questions and problem solve at all hours.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must exercise initiative, judgment, discretion and decision-making.
  • Supervise and analyze inbound truckload shipments.
  • Utilize multiple modes of transportation and ability to negotiate rates and service commitments.
  • Organized, detail and goal oriented.
  • Ability to use time productively, efficiency, and meet challenging work goals.
  • Ability to take on additional responsibilities as needed as well as determine and manage priorities with minimal guidance.
  • Must have basic PC experience in Windows environments, working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, web-enabled applications and database software.
  • Must be a self-starter, with ability to work well as part of a team and independently.
  • Minimum 2 years Produce experience preferred.
  • Some higher education is a plus but not required.
  • Spanish Bi-lingual.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Work with Purchasing daily to organize any pick-ups or transfers that must be made.
  • Coordinate purchases, hire carriers and dispatch carriers.
  • Monitor loading process at the pickup points to assure timely receiving of product.
  • Communicate within the facility in regards to all truck issues on a daily basis.
  • Monitor current transportation rates to keep company competitive.
  • Provide assistance with any issues related to Transportation.
  • Troubleshoot any problem on loads such incorrect pickup #’s, phone #’s and product quantities.
  • Procure new transportation companies
Skills: 

Transportation skills include but are not limited to:

  • Ability to cube trucks while maximizing capacity of trailer and keeping truck within legal weight.
  • Proper temps to run trucks with different produce commodities.
  • Negotiate and provide competitive rate quotes.
  • Match up the right loads with the right carriers at the right rates.
  • General knowledge of D.O.T. regulations such as Hours of Service and legal weight limits.
  • General knowledge of shipping points within the states of NV, CA, AZ & WA in order to minimize pickup areas and maximize ability of carrier to provide service.
