Senior Accountant

Job Description: 

The Senior Accountant will ensure the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating and entering transactions. Review financial data such as expense and P&L, identify and research trends and variances, and make Journal Entry adjustments.  Senior Accountant will ensure the completeness of general ledger and the financials on a monthly basis. Will prepare financial statements, complete monthly closing procedures, analyze revenues to see whether they are correctly reported and prepare monthly account reconciliations. Senior Accountant will assist with audits including month-end and year-end by providing requested information, explaining financial data and internal accounting/financial controls. Will provide financial analysis and analytical support to upper management as needed.  Will develop, recommend and implement sound financial/accounting policies and business processes. Senior Accountant must comply with legal regulations, including tax and audit rules. The Senior Accountant will interact with individuals at all levels and must be able to administer effective communication skills and know how to work under pressure.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Prepares month end Journal Entries and posting Journal Entries in NAV to ensure financial statements are accurate and complete.
  • Perform GL account reconciliations and analyze data to ensure accuracy.  This includes obtaining information from NAV, developing amortization schedules, and ensuring account balances are stated correctly.
  • In charge of intercompany account reconciliation, consolidation, and elimination entries.
  • Verifies and analyze financial information and explain trend and variances.
  • Summarizes financial status by collecting information, preparing balance sheet, profit and loss, and other statements.
  • Responsible for fixed assets and lease accounting.
  • Ensures month-end and year-end procedures are followed and completed in a timely manner.
  • Assists with year-end financial audit, bank audit, and various audit requirements.  This includes providing requested information, explaining financial data and internal accounting and financial controls.
  • Provide accounting support for management and operations by reviewing financial information, researching and interpreting data, answering accounting and financial questions.
  • Assist with the annual budgeting process.  This includes preparing and formatting budgets and analyzing and aligning budgets with business objectives.
  • Develop, recommend and implement sound financial accounting policies, procedures and internal controls.
  • Avoids legal challenges by complying with regulations, tax and audit rules and requirements.
  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  • Responsible for special projects and ad hoc reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field and five (5) years of corporate accounting and consolidations experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Strong General Ledger and month-end close accounting knowledge and skills.
  • Advance skills of MS Excel.
  • ERP experience, preferably in Microsoft Dynamics Navision (NAV).
  • Possess 5 years of corporate accounting and consolidations experience.
  • Food processing and/or agricultural industry experience preferred.

Language Skills:

  • Outstanding communication skills are required. 
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish and English is highly desired. 
  • Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. 
  • Write reports, business correspondence, and potentially procedure manuals. 
  • Effectively presents information and responds to questions from and in the presence of top management and other departments.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Mathematical skills with the ability to work mathematical concepts into everyday business situations are necessary. 
  • Applies concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Calculates figures and amounts such as revenue, expenses, discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Defines problems, collects data, establishes facts, and draws valid conclusions. 
  • Interprets a variety of information and makes calculated decisions.
  • Solves practical problems and deals with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. 
  • Organize schedule and simultaneous projects.
