Sales and Promotions Lead

Job Description: 

We are currently seeking a Sales and Promotions Lead to join our team in Mechanicsville, Virginia. This individual will develop sales focused relationship with our customers and works closely with our Merchandisers to achieve our goals/objectives. 

  • Heavy emphasis on customer problem-solving and interfacing with retail. 
  • Will also be responsible for overseeing sell cost, gross profit and markdown process for assigned customers. 
  • Work with Director, Senior Merchandisers, and Merchandisers to develop and coordinate extra effort programs to drive incremental retail sales. 
  • The Senior Sales and Promotions Lead is responsible for the training and development of our Sales Team.

Merchandiser/ Senior Merchandiser
Responsibilities & Duties: 

Sales and Promo Lead

  • Coordinate region led promotional activity for assigned retail group(s)
  • Grow sales of assigned retail group by creating impactful relationships and extra effort programs
  • Responsible for proofing and ensuring accuracy of promotional activity for ads and communication across all categories
  • Provide competitive merchandising solutions for retail formats by researching market conditions to determine potential sales of product and retail trends
  • Responsible for helping to achieve P&L commitment for the Produce and Floral Department
  • Resolve all internal and external customer merchandising requests and concerns while maintaining a high level of professionalism and service
  • Identify missing ad forecasting; provide guidance/assistance by merchandiser as needed
  • Conduct post-promotional review and analysis to determine if promotional requirements were met and if there were problem areas, provide guidance to merchandiser or sales team to implement corrective action going forward
  • Develop and sustain strong working relationships with assigned retailers
  • Support and implement region and department initiatives as determined by Senior Merchandisers and Director
  • Complete functionality in all CICS/Orderwell screens pertinent to the position.
  • Calling stores per assigned call list to secure / review Produce order, communicate out-of-stocks, daily special, pre-book items, and all pertinent market information.
  • Entering all dated orders for assigned stores as well as direct orders as necessary.
  • Entering all multi-level pricing and special pricing as directed by the Merchandisers. 
  • Maintaining accurate and complete call list with detailed store specific instructions as necessary.
  • A key performance indicator will be based on year-over-year customer purchases and profitability for assigned customers.
  • A key performance indicator will be innovation and sales of “hot buy” items off the “Push Sheet”. 
  • Provide feedback to department on process improvement opportunities
  • All other relevant duties as assigned

Senior Sales and Promo Lead

  • In addition to the above
  • Effectively lead sales team in creation of extra effort sales events such as hot buys, event merchandising, selling of new, unique and seasonal items, etc.
  • Ensure all region initiatives are being communicated to the Sales and Promotions team and executed properly
  • Take the needs of department into consideration when writing the schedule for the Sales and Promotions Leads and Telemarketers.  Ensure all Sales and Promotions duties are being completed and all Sales and Promotions Leads are being held accountable
  • Review post-promotional analysis completed by the Leads and provides guidance to Leads and Merchandisers
  • Train and develop sales team
Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Three years minimum industry experience, including retail desired
  • Proven negotiation skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Aptitude for and interest in financial reporting
  • Ability to lead without reporting authority
  • Proficient at an advanced level in Microsoft Office and SV systems
  • Proven success in a results driven environment

Senior Sales and Promo Lead

  • Five years minimum industry experience, including retail desired
  • Supervisory experience desired
  • Ability to lead a team to achieve goals
  • Training experience desired
