Employer Introduction

The North Carolina Association of Feeding America Food Banks provides a collaborative, collective force for North Carolina Food Banks to provide access to sufficient healthy food to hungry people in North Carolina.

The North Carolina Association of Feeding America Food Banks is a strategic alliance of the six food banks and one food recovery organization in North Carolina who also belong to Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger relief charity. The North Carolina Association of Feeding America Food Banks is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt charitable nonprofit organization.

Our member services include:

  • Statewide networking and communication
  • Food and fund raising
  • Public policy analysis
  • Public awareness about hunger issues

North Carolina food banks collect surplus food from manufacturers, producers, stores, distributors and farmers. We also save food that might otherwise be thrown away while many of our hungry neighbors go without food. In FY 2013-14 our food bank members distributed almost 152 million pounds of nutritious food, the equivalent of over 126 million meals to North Carolinians in need.

North Carolina food banks also receive many food donations from businesses and individuals. In addition our member food banks also have widespread support from individual and other businesses. Those donations allow us to purchase additional food items such as fresh produce to supplement donated food. We find, store and distribute food and grocery items that help people in poverty as well as victims of natural disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes and floods.

Collectively, our food banks work in all of North Carolina’s 100 counties with over 2,500 charitable community partners who serve our neighbors in need. Our partners include:

  • Church pantries
  • Soup kitchens
  • Shelters for the homeless or abused women and children
  • Child care facilities for low income children
  • Senior Meal programs
  • After School programs
