Employer Introduction

Our History

Ramón Manuel Niebla, a native of Ensenáda, México, after completing his studies in architecture, opened a produce business, a trade he learned from his brothers. After relocating to the United States, he started buying tomatillos and jalapeño peppers directly from Southern California growers, loading the trucks himself, while his wife manned the warehouse. It was difficult in the beginning, as they sometimes fought to sell even half a load and to collect the funds to continue loading. However, with family south of the border, they saw a growth opportunity and began importing tomatillos from Tijuána, México.

When an opportunity arose to purchase 30 acres of crop from a well-known grower in Los Mochis Sinaloa, México, with whom Niebla had built a good relationship, he took a risk and brokered the deal. It was a huge gamble that paid off, and R.M. Produce was born.

For approximately two years, the couple rented a warehouse in Tijuána, where they packed the produce. After that, Niebla was then able to build a 75,000-square-foot packing facility called Exportadóra Lizárraga in La Mesa de Otay, Tijuána (just minutes from the international border crossing), out of which to run the company’s distribution. Everything is packed there, guaranteeing that shipments ordered 10 hours in advance can be delivered on time. Distribution ownership and control ensures timely delivery, quality control, and freshness that is unmatched in the industry.

In 2009, R.M. Produce Corp. moved to the Los Angeles Wholesale Produce Market. The expansion continued as the company designed and remodeled a warehouse–complete with two refrigeration rooms and storage capacity for 260 pallets–strategically located in the Los Angeles wholesale produce district. This is the company’s U.S. sales and distribution headquarters.

Our sister company, Exportadóra Lizárraga, ships directly to customers from its quality control and distribution center in Tijuána, México. Both companies work together to provide certified produce and excellent quality. Our newest business owned building standing on 44 acres in Yelena’s Golden, El Carrizo Sinaloa, México will be ready for operation in late 2014. This facility will help to diversify and efficiently serve our clientele.
