Calavo Growers, Inc. (“CGI”) is a global avocado-industry leader and an expanding provider of value-added fresh food serving retail grocery, foodservice, club stores, mass merchandisers, food distributors and wholesalers worldwide. The Company’s Fresh segment procures and markets fresh avocados and select other fresh produce, including tomatoes and papayas. The Renaissance Food Group (RFG) segment creates, markets and distributes a portfolio of healthy, fresh foods, including fresh-cut fruit, fresh-cut vegetables and prepared foods. The Foods segment manufactures and distributes guacamole and salsa. Founded in 1924, Calavo’s fresh food products are sold under the respected Calavo brand name as well as Garden Highway, Chef Essentials and a variety of private label and store brands.
 
We now have an immediate opening for a Quality Assurance/Quality Control Clerk to join our team in our Garland, TX facility.

In this role you will conduct inspections on product inbound and outbound with detailed reports for sales while working directly with TX warehouse and shipping teams. Assign and stage product for daily orders according to customer specs for size & color while maintaining proper inventory rotation.  Monitor product color and inventories for future sales while providing reports as needed.  Inspect incoming tomatoes to ensure compliance with Calavo specifications. (color, size, grade, temperature, etc.)  Perform weekly tomato inspection and color updates. Must be able to distinguish between color varieties of all inventory.  Monitor aged inventory and report condition to management, as well as other assignments as needed.

  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the job. 
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems independently and with sound judgement.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbal and in writing. 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent/or experience on work related field.
  • Must possess strong knowledge of food safety compliance such as Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), GFSI, PrimusGFS and Organic standards. 
  • HACCP certification a plus, but not required. 
  • Preventive Controls Qualified Individual training a plus, but not required.
  • One year’s experience in a position with related job functions and/or skills, preferably within the agriculture industry and in an operations environment.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule (some weekends and nights required).
  • Must be able to distinguish tomato color varieties.
  • Ability to shift/push/tip/and/or move up to 85 lbs. 
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to use Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint). 
  • Ability to work independently, high level of dependability, and work ethic.  Strong attention to detail. Consistently demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness.
