Job Description: 
This is a role that supports retail and wholesale produce buyers by calling on, and developing relationships with, retail and wholesale accounts in and around the Metro New York City area. You will identify opportunities to grow market share and execute on action steps to achieve further growth. This individual will report directly to the Director of Sales, East Coast.
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the banana marketplace in the tri-state area, NY, NJ and CT, including wholesalers, ripeners, and retailers
  • Develop action plans for increasing the Chiquita footprint throughout the assigned market
  • Work with Chiquita customer service, as well as port and transportation logistics to ensure the best customer experience
  • Provide marketplace intelligence to Chiquita quality, marketing and sales teams
  • Submit weekly Sales Plans and Reports that provide direction for the farming, quality and marketing teams
  • Develop a schedule of visits that include headquarter calls, terminal market calls, retail outlet calls and prospecting calls
  • Maintain, track and evaluate weekly sales and opportunities
  • Communicate Chiquita priorities to customers when applicable
  • Develop relationships at multiple levels within the retailer’s produce group – interaction, communication and relationship building with Director, Buyer, Ripener and Retail support teams
  • BS/BA degree or equivalent experience
  • 5 years previous or current fresh produce experience
  • Clean driving record
  • Thorough understanding of the Tri-State produce landscape, with particular emphasis on Metro New York
Ideal Candidate: 
  • Understanding of fresh produce logistics, preferably with bananas
  • Understanding of fresh produce retail applications
  • Ability to work under time constraints and perform with minimum supervision
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changes in work priorities
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask
  • Proficient in PowerPoint and Word
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Advanced skills in Excel preferred
  • Bi-Lingual Spanish/English
Job environment & conditions:
  • Home-office and Regional-office based
  • Regional travel 4 days per week
  • National travel as required
