Job Description: 
A well established grower-shipper in the Salinas Valley that prides itself on teamwork is seeking a Director of Operations for their value-added processing facility. 

This is an opportunity to be a strategic partner within the leadership team and work for a progressive company. As the Director of Operations, you will be responsible for the full departmental leadership of personnel as well as the oversight of equipment, raw materials, bulk product inventory levels, and quality.  They are looking for a dynamic leader with the highest degree of integrity that prides themselves on sustaining and implementing company culture and teamwork. The ideal candidate will have led a team at a value-added facility and taken it to the next level. An entrepreneurial spirit along with exceptional communication skills are a must.

Our client hires long-term players, offers competitive compensation, and treats their employees like family. This is a “true” produce company, with a Salinas produce culture. It’s a sizable growing business, but NOT corporate and/or owned by investors or another non-produce company. 
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Direct the overall activities of the manufacturing facilities to ensure customer orders are received, scheduled, produced and shipped at the lowest possible cost to meet the customers' requirements while maintaining corporate established quality standards.
  • Ensure that appropriate standard operating procedures (SOP's) are developed and maintained for all aspects of the business, including facility cleanliness for food safety standards.
  • Establish and track KPls and interface with the Executive team on strategies to streamline production practices.
  • Ensure that labor, ingredients, and equipment resources for production and support services are available and utilized effectively.
  • Coordinate plant activities through planning with departmental managers to ensure the total manufacturing objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost­ effective manner.
  • Establish and monitor overall plant performance for production and quality standards.
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships within the department and the company; build trust and credibility quickly at all levels within the organization while achieving key operating objectives.
  • Ensure that operational processes stay within agreed upon budgets and timelines by controlling costs and keeping the organization on track financially; control and minimize labor overtime and repair expenses.
  • Ensure compliance with government regulations in the areas of employee safety, food safety, environmental, and employee practices. (FDA, HACCP, GMP, USDA, EPA, OSHA)
  • Implement, manage and evaluate operational processes and procedures, in accordance with the standards and to improve and standardize all aspects of operations.
  • Direct and manage plant operations for Production, Packaging, Maintenance, Safety, Sanitation, and Shipping & Receiving; set goals and objectives and establish policies for the various departments in the organization.
  • Seasonal overnight travel to Yuma as required.
  • Valid California Driver's License required.
  • Minimum of ten years food processing experience in a USDA / HACCP manufacturing environment, preferably in fresh-cut produce processing.
  • Demonstrated leadership in the areas of food safety, quality assurance & plant regulatory.
  • Excellent leadership skills. This role requires an experienced professional who can balance overseeing day-to-day operations as well as longer range planning, analysis  and strategy.
  • Experience with USDA Rules & Regulations.
  • Knowledge of all governmental regulations concerning OSHA, FDA, HACCP, LGMA, as well as good manufacturing practices (GMP) for food processing.
  • HACCP Certification from a nationally or internationally recognized and accredited HACCP training firm. (Required)
  • Experience with machinery and equipment, mechanical aptitude and proficiency, with the ability to work knowledgeably with engineers, designers, mechanics, machine operators and more.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to effectively present information to senior management team.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to lead Capex projects.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and other computer software programs as needed.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Food Safety, Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science, Manufacturing Engineering or related field preferred but not necessary.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
