The Food Safety Director (FSD) serves a critical function on the management team as the lead for all regulatory compliance. The FSD will oversee the implementation of the requirements, policies, procedures, and training components of our food safety and quality programs. This position is fundamental in developing a forward-thinking food safety program, while providing leadership and direction for a diverse employee group in our company. Requirements: 
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Food Safety with working knowledge and management level experience in HACCP, GMP, USDA, FDA, and working with 3rd party inspections
  • Must have the ability to make independent, sound decisions while working within framework established with executive management 
  • Proven experience working with union employees specific to training and record documentation in food safety
  • Ability to work effectively with managers, employees, suppliers, and customers
  • Strong time management, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated, positive, and proactive, excellent analytical thinking skills and detail oriented
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Must be able to communicate and work comfortably and effectively with everyone from sanitation to the boardroom

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Review and evaluate all D’Arrigo NY’s current food safety and quality programs
  • Design, develop and implement a food safety and quality strategy that keeps D’Arrigo as the premier supplier of safe and fresh produce.
  • Lead integration of the current food safety and quality assurance processes into one consolidated process including but not limited to: regulatory audits, quality systems review process, standard operating procedures (SOPs), incoming product inspections, product scoring, food safety audits, and standardized work procedures 
  • Ensure that company policies comply with federal, state, local, and customer food safety policies and regulations. Prepare and submit all required reports, correspondence, and documentation 
  • Build effective internal partnerships with cross functional teams to ensure that all company food safety and quality assurance procedures are followed and documented at all times
  • Maintain high level engagement with regulatory issues within the industry and provide information both internally and externally
  • Ensure that managers, supervisors, and employees have the required food safety training and are consistently working within food safety requirements
  • Oversee proper maintenance and sanitation of all facilities to comply with food safety requirements 
  • Work with suppliers to ensure all federal, state, and local food safety regulations are in compliance
  • Work with customers and third-party auditors to ensure our programs' compliance with their needs and standards. 
  • Recommend new technologies, best practices and sanitation innovations involving food safety  
  • Provide guidance and leadership in situations where deviations have occurred, or a potential risk has been identified related to food safety and/or quality attributes
  • Regularly collect, analyze and report the results of tests executed in our facilities and the related corrective actions
  • Document and maintain training registry for all employees
  • Further develop and revise policies and procedures in accordance with new regulations as necessary
