Job Description: 
PURPOSE:
This person will be responsible for the daily administration and management of the food safety and quality programs at the Malaga facility.
 
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor of Science/Art degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Biochemistry, Biological Sciences or related field is required. Must be knowledgeable in food processing equipment as well as food quality/safety/sanitation systems and programs. A willingness to acquire additional training and certification, including PCQI and SQF Practitioner training, within six months of being hired. Understanding of the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards. Understanding of Organic compliance and standards (e.g. NOP). A strong understanding of food microbiology and chemistry. Excellent leadership, communication, training and team building skills. Good writing, statistical, analytical and critical thinking skills. Ability to effective respond to the concerns of managers, subordinates, customers and regulatory agencies. Excellent organizational skills. This person must be trainable in personal safety, product safety, and product quality standards along with related job duties. Must be able to work on multiple tasks simultaneously requiring communication and interaction with employees at all levels. Must have the ability to travel when needed to various Grimmway facilities. Remote work not available for this position. Must be able to speak and read English. Bilingual, English/Spanish a plus. Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean DMV driving record. Must pass pre-placement drug/alcohol screen.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Provide direction and leadership to Food Safety and Quality Department personnel; monitor and respond to food safety/quality indicators; serve as primary escort for audits and inspections to assure that standard operating procedures are being followed; responsible for government and customer audit administration; monitor and administer Food Safety Plan and SQF Program; troubleshoot and investigate food quality/food safety issues, and interact with all customer representatives; develop, train and assess the performance of Food Safety Department staff; provide recommendations to management in relation to SOP/Specification compliance; maintain product specifications and food safety system documentation; additional projects and duties as it relates to this position. This position will require a high percentage of time on the production floor to ensure food safety and quality procedures are carried out by staff and serve as a resource to production, sanitation, maintenance and shipping departments.
  
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity equipment; ability to move in food processing facilities (sometimes through narrow passages, in wet areas, or on elevated platforms); ability to occasionally move about inside the office, food processing facilities and/or farming fields; must be able to work in different temperatures (working temperatures as hot as 100° to 105° F and as cold as -20° F to 32° F); must be able to work in a high noise area; ability to inspect equipment and product.
