Job Description: 

Healthy Avocado has been importing avocados from over 20 packing houses in Michoacán, since 2002. We enjoy a strong reputation for fast payments and fair dealings. Our business can only be as good as the relationships we make, and we always make our best effort to connect. Our customers are large wholesalers, and small foodservice and retail/buyers throughout the USA.
 
Our sales volume is 1100 trucks and we plan to add limes to offer our customers this season! As we continue to grow our business, we are looking for a well-connected Retail Sales Manager to join our team. The Retail Sales Manager will leverage their superior knowledge and relationships in retail to build our direct to retail business.
 
First and foremost, we are looking for an experienced produce sales professional with a passion for the business and an exceptional work ethic. If this person has experience on the procurement side and knows avocados, that is even better. The avocado business can be volatile. We need someone who enjoys the hustle and strives to deliver the best quality and service to our customers.
 
The right person will make a large impact in our business and will be offered the opportunity to earn a great living doing what they love. We offer health insurance and a 401K plan. As we look ahead, there will be opportunities to grow within the company. We currently have a team of 7 salespeople with a total of over 60 years of experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Seek out new accounts and revenue generating opportunities that support the company’s mission and create sustainable growth for the company.
  • Increase sales through effective business development and strong relationships with new and existing retail and wholesale customers ·
  • Closely monitor the market and competition and changes in the market (i.e. competitive pricing, new products, etc.)  and share information with the team, customers and suppliers.
  • Discuss availability for coming weeks to understand the suppliers harvesting plan. With that detail we advise our customers of upcoming promotion opportunities.
  • Communicate with our sales team of 7 persons to learn our demand for different sizes and quantities and arrival dates. Have excellent ability to organize and communicate details and numbers.

Qualifications:

  • Possess the knowledge or the ability to learn fast to gain a solid understanding of the fresh produce supply-chain which includes sales & buying negotiation, distribution logistics, communication of market information, and development of relationships using the phone & email.
  • Experience in the fresh produce business or other perishable commodities.
  • Experience buying and selling in large volume in a fast-paced/buying/sales environment.
  • Good with numbers and details
  • Familiar with spreadsheets and database (FileMaker)
  • Bilingual with excellent communication skills in English and Spanish is helpful but not required.
  • Friendly, outgoing, good sense of humor and intelligent.
  • Able to talk with all kinds of people from truck drivers to persons in position of authority who demand good presentation skills.
  • Polite and persuasive.
