Job Description:
JOB PURPOSE: Responsible for supervising and directing the day-to-day activities within the maintenance department and repair of company fleet, small and large farm equipment, portable pumps as well as fabrication shop.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create and maintain preventative vehicle and equipment maintenance programs and evaluation schedules for all vehicles and equipment
- Position supervises mechanics, technicians and fabricators; approves work requests and assigns work orders to designated staff
- Utilize fleet management software to inventory and oversee all ranch equipment and vehicle maintenance
- Develop and implement daily-prioritized work lists to staff. Enter and close out work orders in the system
- Review and authorize any repair estimates and invoices to ensure appropriate repairs and cost savings
- Issue purchase orders for parts, fleet repairs, supplies and miscellaneous items
- Inspect and approve all work coming out of mechanic and fabrication shop
- Comply with all DOT, OSHA, EPA and all state laws as well as oversee, maintain and retain all annual DOT inspections
- Work with Human Resources and other management to review and approve new hires
- Work closely with Safety team to investigate all vehicle and equipment accidents and fleet safety violations
- Create, maintain and retain equipment inspections on all equipment for mandated time periods and state laws
- Work with Safety team to inspect and monitor work areas, examine tools and equipment, to prevent, detect, and correct unsafe conditions or violations of procedures and safety rules
- Monitor tools and the condition and maintenance of shops to ensure adequate working conditions
- Meet with vendors or suppliers to discuss products used in repair work.
- Recommend to management special equipment as needed
SKILLS/ QUALIFICATIONS/CREDENTIALS:
- Valid Class C Driver’s license;
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
- Knowledge of shop operations and equipment, consisting of farm machinery, diesel engines, wells, hydraulic systems, vehicles and their operations
- Understand OSHA regulations, Injury and Illness Program, BIT Program and DOT
- High School diploma/GED or equivalent work experience
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards of the trade and of the proper use of safety practices
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and other employees
