JOB FILLED - General Manager

Job Description: 

The General Manager is responsible for providing leadership and vision in all aspects of the agriculture operation, directing the business operation, ensuring the safety of the employees, and is responsible for the strategic planning, financial management, and profitable growth of the business.

The General Manager will work closely with the executive team, to collaborate and forecast long range goals, strategies, plans, and policies.  Leading and driving the organization’s vision, mission and core values is a high priority in this position.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for leading, directing and overseeing the overall operation of the highly automated greenhouse operation to ensure alignment with the company’s strategic plans and vision, including short-term and long-term objectives
  • Manages business operations with an emphasis on executing operational policies and strategies, implementing initiatives to increase profits through performance and future-focused productivity improvements
  • Full P&L responsibility for state-of-the art growing facility
  • Secures necessary approval for fixed asset purchases and leases, contractual obligations and other matters or transactions requiring company authorization
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining appropriate financial reporting and internal control mechanisms
  • Responsible for timely and accurate reporting of all financial, operational, personnel and marketing issues and activities
  • Enforce strict Good Manufacturing Practices, Sanitation and Safety Standards
  • Ensure operations is fully compliant with a all regulations related o food safety, employee safety, food processing and employment laws
  • Manages a program of safety and equipment maintenance to limit safety hazards
  • Manages business operations with an emphasis on implementing initiatives to increase profits through performance and future-focused productivity improvements  
  • Collaborates with the executive team across the organization, with a view to scoping out project requirements and moving forward on achievement of project deliverables, troubleshooting and resolving problems as required
  • Works with the administrative team to build a strong sales and marketing culture for the company
  • Participates with the executive team in growth strategies and plans for current and future expansion
  • Create and develop new methods, operations procedures, and systems in production management and team management to improve efficiency and performance and ensure effective and consistent support and execution
  • Manages relationships with contractors and consultants providing direction and monitoring contract compliance
  • Reviews and approves cost-control reports, cost estimates, and staffing requirements for projects
  • Maintains knowledge of emerging agriculture innovative technologies and trends in operations management
  • Identifies training needs and ensures proper training is developed and provided 
  • Assists when needed with emergency administration
  • Assists and performs any other related duties as required or assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in agriculture of business or equivalent experience preferred
  • 10 years of experience in agriculture business and financial management preferred
  • Excellent managerial and financial skills and the ability to take leadership over any business operations area
  • Experience in managing and controls of large construction projects (greater than $50 million).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, particularly the ability to communicate as a leader
  • Thorough understanding of management and financial practices in all areas and phases of business operations

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
  • Must be able to navigate various departments of the organization’s physical premises
  • Must be able to travel
