Job Description: 

The Salad Farm is a family-owned grower-processor-shipper operation of baby leaf items with over 30 years of experience in agriculture. The Salad Farm is known for being responsive leaders in the produce industry with the highest quality Organic & Conventional Spring Mix, Arugula, Spinach, Kale selling products year-round throughout United States and Canada.

We now have an immediate opening for a Food Safety & Quality Assurance Director to join our team in Salinas/Hollister, CA and Yuma, AZ (4 months per year).

The Food Safety / Quality Assurance Director manages food safety and product quality assurance for the Hollister, CA & Yuma, AZ processing facility operations. Duties include management of software applications related to quality and food safety; ensuring employee practices and finished products meeting regulatory, internal and customer requirements; and supervising QA team members to ensure adequate support of production and receiving activities. This includes managing, maintaining and developing food safety documentation needed for facility operations such as daily reports, SOPs, HACCP, etc.  Additionally, you will manage 3rd party audits (Primus GFSI), LGMA certifications, Individual Customer audits, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Strong attention to details.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Experience in food safety and quality areas, knowledge in Hazard Analysis and risk-based Preventive Controls (HARPC), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), FSMA regulations
  • Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) Training.
  • College level microbiology and chemistry classes with lab a plus
  • Knowledge of LGMA requirements & able to manage LGMA field audits
  • Knowledge of GAP’s, GMP’s, and HACCP
  • Ability to work independently  & be self-managed
  • Ability to travel 4 months of the year to Yuma, AZ  (Nov-Mar)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual – Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English and Spanish.
  • Five (5) years industry experience in food safety and quality management in fresh cut produce or frozen foods.
