Job Description: 

Tasteful Selections, LLC, located in Arvin, California, is a specialty potato company whose mission is to delight the consumer with great tasting, easy to prepare, inspirational potato products.  A joint venture between RPE, Inc., CSS Farms, Inc. and Plover River Farms, Inc., the company is a vertically integrated farming operation which grows, packs, and markets baby potatoes, fingerlings and seed potatoes.

The Health and Safety Manager will report as a member of the Operations Team and will report directly to the VP of Operations. This role will oversee contract labor safety requirements, will have direct reports (Safety Assistants), and will work closely with the Management Team at Tasteful Selections.  

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices
  • Represents company safety culture in all things and enforce policies to establish a culture of safety compliance
  • Responsible for safety labels and best practice signage throughout production facility and farm shop locations; signage must be posted in English and Spanish
  • Evaluates decibel sound exposure within production facility and implements appropriate PPE and annual reviews
  • Assesses compliance and operational risks and develops risk management procedures
  • Monitors and enforces compliance standards
  • Develops and implements employee-led behavior-based safety processes
  • Review and update job hazard analysis for production positions
  • Performs routine safety audits
  • Leads investigations of accidents, incidents, and near misses to identify causes and to determine preventative steps in avoiding similar future incidents
  • Compiles and submits required OSHA accident reports
  • Documents workplace accidents/injuries and personnel safety violations
  • Direct environmental programs, such as air or water compliance
  • Participate in discussions with government agencies, regarding environmental permitting and other compliance issues
  • Responsible for escorting inspectors throughout production facility
  • Leads safety training initiatives, safety education programs including new hire safety training, and demonstrate the use of safety equipment
  • Provide regulatory guidance to facility management and other relevant personnel
  • Collaborate with management team and safety committee to establish/update remedial measures for hazardous and potentially hazardous conditions or equipment
  • Maintain thorough understanding of pertinent codes, governing regulations, and industry practices related to environmental, health, and safety standards
  • Management of all operating permits
Qualifications: 

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, Chemistry, or other related field of study
  • 5+ years of work experience in environmental, health, and safety related role
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)
  • Candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S. to be considered for this position
  • Risk management experience
  • Working knowledge of Cal/OSHA, EPA, NFPA regulations, policies, programs, PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), and accident/injury investigation procedures
  • Experience with local regulatory compliance, applying for and obtaining environmental permits, permit compliance, and regulatory reporting
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.) and a general aptitude with software systems, including statistical analysis software
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including ability to train and work with operational personnel on the farm

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience in Manufacturing Environment
  • Experience in Food and Beverage Environment
  • EHS Certification/s (CSP, CIH, CSHT, OSHT)
