JOB FILLED - Consumer Safety Officer (Produce Operations)

Job Description: 

The US Food and Drug administration is now accepting applications for Consumer Safety Officers (Produce Operations) in multiple locations including;  Phoenix, AZ, Los Angeles County, CA, Yuma, AZ, and Montclair, CA. 

As a Consumer Safety Officer you will:

  • Serve as a produce program expert within a division, provides extensive advisory, liaison, and consultative services for produce safety programs to the regulated community.
  • Provide advice and assistance on extensive, complex, and complicated issues unique to produce operations, and inspectional problems relative to the safety and effectiveness of food products.
  • Use your skills in verbal communication practices and principles used for presentations and conducting negotiations with industry representatives and other government agencies.
  • Provide written analyses of data, in-depth fault analysis evaluations, and product failures aimed at preserving and protecting the public health.

Applicants must meet one of the following (A or B).

A. A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in quality assurance or a related degree that included at least 30 semester hours in one or a combination of the following: consumer laws, biological sciences, food science, chemistry, pharmacy, physical sciences, food technology, nutrition, medical science, engineering, epidemiology, veterinary medical science, legal investigations, law enforcement, or related scientific fields that provided knowledge directly related to consumer safety officer work. The 30 semester hours may include up to 8 semester hours in statistics, or course work that included the principles, theory, or practical application of computers or computer programming; - OR -

B. Combination of education and experience--courses consisting of at least 30 semester hours in the fields of study described in paragraph A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

You must possess one year (52-weeks) of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-12) in the Federal service.

Such experience includes: experience applying produce and agricultural principles to conduct and direct highly technical and complex inspections related to fresh produce; evaluating data and inspection reports and preparing decision papers on the safety of fresh produce; interpreting and implementing laws, regulations, and policies applicable to produce operations and food safety; and experience serving as a principal advisor on regulatory and compliance matters related to food safety issues.
