Job Description: 

Vegetable Growers Supply Company (VGS) started in 1948 as a cooperative dedicated to providing quality packaging products to West Coast growers and shippers of fresh fruits and vegetables. We continue to provide a full line of corrugated cartons, flexible packaging, pallets, plastic RPCs, and a large inventory of hardware and harvesting supplies. VGS has continued to grow due to the success of its people and its flexibility to adjust to the changing needs of its customers.

You will be responsible for selling and managing our line of corrugated cartons, plastic packaging products and farming supplies to current and prospective customer accounts by providing innovative ideas and implementing those ideas while providing excellent service and perform the following duties.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Selling corrugated packaging to agricultural and/or industrial customers while learning our full line of products.
  • Developing and managing the assigned sales territory.
  • Completing the entire sales process from the initial call through closing the deal.
  • Assisting customers with the design process in order to create new and innovative ideas for packaging their product.
  • Providing correct customer specifications for estimates and quotes.
  • Developing, revising and maintaining accurate forecasts for all customers.
  • Establishing and maintaining good customer relationships through excellent communication.
  • Continuous internal communication with all areas including President, credit, purchasing, operations, etc.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE                                     
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business information or periodicals, professional journals, or technical procedures. Ability to write routine reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers or vendors.

MATHEMATICS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.                 

REASONING ABILITY 
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 
Valid California Driver License.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Excellent time management, negotiating and prospecting skills, ability to leverage leads and close sales, demonstrate a high level of attention to detail, ability to work independently and stay organized and portray a professional demeanor.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Three to five years of documented sales in the corrugated industry within California preferred; Willing to work hours including evenings and weekends as needed; Required to travel to customer or vendor locations as required; Time off may be limited during busy seasons.
