JOB FILLED - Produce Sourcing Specialist / Buyer

Job Description: 
Based out of our office in Phoenix, Arizona, the Sourcing Specialist / Buyer will play an integral role in the success of the Sobeys organization and our banners across Canada by enhancing our strategic alignment and quality offerings in produce. The role will augment activities in Canada and the existing sourcing operation in Phoenix, Arizona to support our continued growth. This role will leverage the scale of the business to drive efficiencies in quality, consistent supply, product cost and logistics resulting in savings for the company while developing collaborative supplier relationships to secure the best produce in the marketplace and improving services levels to the stores.

Requirements: 
  • Strong computer and systems skills to include Microsoft office.
  • Experience with iTrade OMS platform and reporting functions.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong negotiating skills.
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Financial Performance - Achieve company and departmental financial goals and targets.
  • KPI’s Empowerment - Builds relationships inside and outside the organization to achieve growth of a sustainable and leveraged produce sourcing operation.
  • Relationships-Achieve respect and influence via engagement, relationship building and alignment with regions, category management, produce staff, supplier partners, industry groups and Sobeys corporate level business contacts.
  • Supplier Alignment & Quality - Guide and collaborate the development of strategic supplier programs and application of layered contracts or alignment for improving quality, cost components and category performance in accordance with regional and company sales plan strategies.
  • Strategic Opportunity - Be an expert in the respective commodity area and be able to relate the strategic commodity opportunity by understanding cost-supply components, projected market fluctuations, weather impact, quality status, growing areas and freight implications.
  • Negotiation - Responsible in achieving the lowest cost possible and generate opportunity buys within a prescribed quality standard in regular and contractual negotiation including mediation and dispute resolutions.
  • Service Support - Interact and collaborate with regional teams, category management, quality assurance, logistics and suppliers to drive optimal service to the region's warehouses.
  • Innovation & Inspirations - Empowered to achieve business targets, innovative contributions and optimal service to the regions.
  • Develops and pursues industry leading innovation in commodity development, technology and operational processes.
  • Engages and maintains interest in personal growth and or career development.

Ideal Candidate: 
  • 4-year college degree.
  • 3 years retail store and or backstage experience.
  • Extensive produce industry and supplier base knowledge to include growing areas, commodities, market conditions and applicable regulations.
  • Superior negotiation skills.
  • Bilingual-French or Spanish a plus.
  • Excellent oral, written and listening skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
