We now have an immediate opening for a Food Safety Manager to join our team in Watsonville, CA

The Food Safety Manager is responsible. This position is responsible for development, maintenance, improvement, and implementation of company food safety policies in Central and Southern California.

Requirements: 
  • 2 years’ experience in food industry or related experience, agriculture experience is a plus.
  • GFSI certification and experience preferred but not required.
  • Prior auditing experience.
  • Proactive attitude and strong organizational skills.
  • Outstanding leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highest standard of integrity.
  • Previous experience with third party auditors, including Primus GFS.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s license .
  • Must be experienced and knowledgeable in the areas of food safety, product safety, product quality standards, document control, and regulatory issues pertaining to organic and conventional farming.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Manage the company food safety program in all areas of food safety for all applicable departments, including growing, harvesting, transportation, and cooling.
  • Interview, select and train all food safety department staff including disciplinary action and terminations.
  • Coordinate and execute all second- and third-party audits, as well as “in-house” inspections of ranches, crews, and facilities.
  • Conduct all employee food safety trainings as needed.
  • Conduct all irrigation water sampling, documentation, scheduling, and remediation reports.
  • Oversee and document 7-day pre-harvest field inspections related to LGMA compliance.
  • Manage and monitor all elements of field sanitation including toilets and harvest equipment sanitizing.
  • Manage and monitor chemical applications as related to food safety, such as reentry intervals and equipment calibration.
  • Interact effectively with all levels of company staff and to work independently as needed.
  • Oversee and manage the company’s “Test and Hold” Program.
  • Conduct and document mock recall exercises with sales staff.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and an accident free record.
  • Evaluate food safety problems and implement feasible improvements.
  • Communicate food safety information to employees, customers, and suppliers.
  • Maintain the food safety information database.
  • Respond to and provide data for customers food safety requests.
  • Conduct documented risk assessments.
  • Manager will also be the organic compliance “backup” for current staff member.
  • Enforce policies and disciplinary action related to food safety including termination of employees who grossly violate food safety policies.
  • Attend industry educational meetings for further educational development.
  • Oversee labor contractor’s food safety trainings and content, monitor contracted crew activities.
  • Oversee and manage the Food Safety Specialist.
