Job Description:

We are the largest privately owned produce wholesaler on the West Coast, with distribution centers in Seattle, Spokane, Portland, Anchorage, Boise, Los Angeles and Salt Lake City. Essential Functions:
- Contacts suppliers to aggressively negotiate and acquire product for resale.
- Maintains effective product communications with other buyers and sales representatives for product sales.
- Track stock and non-stock product to ensure stock items are not duplicated, and inventory is available for re-sale.
- Manage and strengthen product line to satisfy customer needs.
- Develop new mixes of product for Food service programs.
- Has knowledge of product line, prices, delivery time, various marketing promotional services, and similar data, as required.
- Maintain positive working relationship & accountability with sales department, receiving department and operations and most importantly to customers.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Desired Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum Five (5) years produce experience, preferably in the Portland market.
- Strong commodities knowledge, including vegetable, fruit, herbs, and grocery product lines.
- Effective interpersonal skills to communicate with customers and peers.
- Proven negotiation skills.
- Able to multi-task and work well under pressure in a day-to-day work plan.
- Education requirements: High School diploma, 2 year college preferred
- PC skills: AS400, Excel, 10-key
- Some travel required: visiting growers & attending produce conventions.
- Physical requirements: Walking thru the warehouse to take product inventory.
- Strong Math & Writing skills required to quickly multiply & add cases/pallets & calculate product cost, market and margin.
- Ability to observe and follow proper safety procedures, and a willingness to report potentially unsafe conditions.
