The Role: The Celery breeder assistant has the opportunity to incorporate multidisciplinary knowledge into practical work while contributing to the success of new variety development for vegetable production. The main role of this position is to support the breeder in the field of breeding, seed increase, and other related research projects proposed by the breeder, in nursery, field and laboratory settings.
The successful candidate will have:
- A high school diploma and /or an associate degree in agriculture.
- BS with plant breeding, genetics, agronomy or biology preferred
- 2-3 years of experience in farming, harvesting or seed industry preferred.
- Possess or be willing to acquire pesticide applicator’s certificate/license.
- Working knowledge of vegetable/seed production, or plant breeding.
- Great focus and attention to detail, drive tasks to closure with minimal error. Must have a clean DMV (driving record.
- Bi-lingual in English/Spanish preferred.
- Must have excellent written, verbal interpersonal and cross-cultural skills to communicate and work with everyone, from the field, warehouse, to customers, team-members, and management.
- Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers, team members, and managers.
