JOB FILLED - Spray Operations Technician

Job Description: 

Sun Pacific began in 1969 with the purchase of 72 acres of oranges in Exeter, California. Today Sun Pacific owns more than 40,000 acres in California and ships 35 million boxes of fresh fruit annually. As the acreage has grown, so has our expertise and attention to detail in farming and packing the highest quality product. Today, with over 3,000 employees, Sun Pacific is the largest grower/shipper of navel oranges in the world, and the largest grower/shipper of table grapes, mandarins, and kiwi in North America. Our team is growing and currently looking for a Spray Operations Technician for our farming department in Reedley, CA.

The technician, spray operations, will be regularly involved in working with all enterprises at Sun Pacific Farming (with the majority of work taking place between Maricopa to Reedley).

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: The technician, spray operations, will directly report to and work under the supervision and direction of the Company’s specialist, spray operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential job duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Comprehensive application evaluations (days or nights dependent on the time of year);

  • Assistance for sprayer calibrations;
  • Spray personnel trainings;
  • Field equipment inspection/analysis;
  • Assist and support the Specialists, Spray Operations in all active projects; and,
  • All other tasks, projects, duties and responsibilities, as assigned by the Company and/or the Operations Specialist.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years’ experience with planning, farming, and management of spray setups and related farming equipment; and,
  • Valid Qualified Applicator’s License (If not possessed at time of hire, must be obtained within first 6 months of employment). 

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

  • Possession of a CDL and an acceptable driving record insurable by the Company’s insurance policy;
  • Bilingual in English & Spanish (Must be able to provide complex trainings in Spanish);
  • Ability to work extensive hours, nights, weekends, and be flexible to compliment the demands of farming and spray operations;
  • Willingness to study and utilize progressive application concepts in your day-to-day role; 
  • Ability to operate a tractor and back up a trailer; 
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple responsibilities, projects, and tasks;
  • Must have a working knowledge of technology and computer functions, including Microsoft Excel; and,
  • Physical requirements include driving for extended periods of time, work will be outdoors in hot and dusty fields during active pesticide applications, often on uneven terrain and at night; and,
  • Must be able to climb up ladders and hang water sensitive paper in trees. Must be able to carry ladders that weight up to 35 lbs.
