JOB FILLED - Planting Manager

Job Description:

Under the supervision of the Ranch Manager and Operations Manager, the Planting Manager is responsible for maintaining the planting schedule, overseeing the planting of crops, conducting planting (seed) trials, and managing chemical applications at planting. This position works with the land preparation team. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Organize and maintain planting schedule including acres per crop to be planted weekly, biweekly, monthly, etc.
  • Create and develop costing structures for the planting department.
  • Maintain inventory and projection of land for planting.
  • Prepare and distribute work schedules for planting and land preparation.
  • Organize and designate planting locations for seeded and transplant crops.
  • Maintain seed inventory levels and manages costs on a regular basis.
  • Order transplants and manage cost to fulfill planting schedule.
  • Develop and track nursery (greenhouse) production schedule: plant dates, ready dates, varieties seeded, etc.
  • Coordinate the use and movement of transplant trailers and transplant crew.
  • Create tank mixes for planting related pesticide applications and maintain pesticide inventory in computer system.
  • Review crop availability and make recommendations for crop shredding and residue management.
  • Research possible seed varieties and conduct and manage on-farm trials.
  • Other duties that are reasonably associated with the above essential functions of the job may be assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three years’ experience in farming, food production, and/or distribution.
  • Valid Class C drivers’ license.
  • Experience operating machinery such as loaders, forklifts, GPS on Tractors and Backhoe.
  • Proficient with inventory control systems.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred but not required.
  • Superior analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience of computer software (Microsoft office, Windows 10).
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
