Hudson River Fruit Distributors is one of the leading apple grower/packer/shippers on the east coast. Located in the Hudson Valley New York, we are a 4th generation family owned and operated business. 

Description
We are looking for a hardworking, responsible, and self-motivated individual to join our executive team as a Food Production Manager, Apples. This role manages and oversees the packing house to achieve operational objectives and meet daily sales orders. They will observe, analyze, and research the packing line to ensure its operating efficiently, effectively and following all food safety protocols.
  
Job Description:
  • Setup the packing line daily for efficient operation by properly staffing each station with the correct number of employees, monitoring packing materials being used, and all correct apple sizes are used to optimize grower returns.
  • Supervise packers to ensure that the proper quality fruit is being packed as per packing instructions and monitor the packing line for peak performance in terms of volume and cost.
  • Manage all administration paperwork including pack outs, traceability, & QC reports. In addition, will create and maintain productivity metrics to be reviewed bi-weekly with upper management.
  • Acquire a general understanding of the total company operation, including sales programs & special customer requirements, storage operations & grower relations.
  • Develop and implement a preventive maintenance procedure on all equipment in the building and keep upper management informed of any equipment problems or concerns.
Other Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for monitoring and ordering all packing materials and compare supplier pricing. 
  • Monitor inventory levels and lead times to ensure no Out of Stocks.
  • Purchase supplies needed to carry out repairs and maintenance programs in coordination with the General Manager. Also ensure the spare items of major pieces of equipment are in inventory.
  • Maintain GFSI (currently Primus) and USDA Global GAP audits and any other applicable certificates required by our customers.
  • Maintain and improve safety programs including Food Safety/HACCP and Employee Safety. Assure local and national regulatory compliance including but not limited to OSHA, USDA, FDA, GAP, GMP.
  • Responsibilities include screening and hiring new employees and taking disciplinary actions when necessary. All personnel matters must be documented in writing and upper management must be informed of personnel needs and/or problems.
  • Maintain files of incident reports and corrective actions.
  • Responsible for quality assurance including Trace & Recall Procedures. Maintains a status of “audit ready packing facility”.
  • Monitor OSHA safety guidelines and ensure the facility complies.
  • Monitor legal issues – Current and pending Legislation (Domestic and Foreign).
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of apple varieties, grade requirements, quality factors, line operations and apple storage.
  • Candidate with produce or farming experience that understands the flow of a packing season.
  • Must be hands-on with employees in a labor-intensive environment.
  • Ability to work 5.5-day week schedule, Monday-Saturday
  • Spanish speaking a plus
Compensation/Salary: 
$60,000 - $85,000
