Job Description: 

The National Mango Board (NMB) is a national promotion and research organization, which is supported by assessments from domestic and imported mangos. The board’s mission is to increase awareness and consumption of fresh mangos in the U.S. 

The National Mango Board is in search of a Retail Account Manager. This position works in a consultant capacity to the National Mango Board. This is a contracted opportunity, not an offer of employment.  NMB Account Managers are 1099 contractors who are responsible for their own taxes, insurance and other benefits.  

The ideal candidate will use their produce, retail sales and marketing experience to analyze market conditions to create retail programs and promotions that support the NMB strategies and support their retail partners’ mango initiatives through merchandising and promotion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Highest priority is to build and maintain relationships with retailers in the West identified by the NMB as key targets, this includes the primary produce contact as well as fresh cut fruit, Retail Dietitians and the marketing teams. This is done through face to face meetings and phone/email follow up engagement with the targeted retailers as well as participation in retail expos/seminars as needed.
  • Deliver and utilize tools provided by the NMB, research and other resources to retailers to educate and help them build their mango business.  
  • Working within the promotional budget allocated to your territory, negotiate and arrange retail promotions and programs to effectively increase mango movement with these retailers throughout the year.  
  • Secure fulfillment (proof of performance) from the retailers in a timely manner and conduct follow up and analysis of completed promotions and submit to the NMB for payment based on NMB financial schedule. 
  • Provide call reports and updates to the Retail Program Manager in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate with the NMB and other consultants to support the NMB strategic goals and initiatives with retailers in your region
  • Participate in monthly team conference calls and attend board meeting(s) functions, trade shows and planning meeting(s) as necessary 

Requirements:

  • The responsibilities of the retail account manager are expected to take up roughly 170 workdays per year. 
  • 5+ years experience in the produce industry in a retail marketing or sales position.
  • Existing relationships with produce retailers nationally and in the West.
  • Strong sales/relationship building skills.
  • Organized, detail-oriented and strong follow through.
  • Self-directed with an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Experience working in a home office with limited oversight.
  • Ability to work independently in your own remote work location, ideally  in the West.
  • Travel 35%
