SUMMARY:
Support Markon’s Purchasing Team through regional buying primarily east of the Mississippi River. Possesses a high-level commodity expertise and negotiation and problem-solving ability. Continually strives to meet the needs and expectations of Markon’s Member-Distributors and to provide them with a food-safe, high quality and competitively priced produce. While operating independently, the Regional Buyer will have proven collaborative and leadership skills to interact across the country and with multiple stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following and other duties as may be assigned:
Product Management

While operating independently, the Regional Buyer will have proven collaborative and leadership skills to interact across the country and with multiple stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following and other duties as may be assigned:
Product Management
- Working with Markon Purchasing IT system for PO placement and shipper confirmations
- Supported by Markon Salinas office for PO processing, shipper confirmations and marketing support
- Will interface daily with our distributor members
- Programs will meet or exceed current member-operated programs in food safety, quality, cost and performance
- Quarterly meetings/visits to Markon HQ in Salinas
- Meetings as needed at member distribution centers and offices
- Improve Markon market share
- Lower fob cost
- Increase Markon membership’s brand penetration
- Increase Markon-branded presence in region
- Further establish Markon as a Coast-to-Coast produce leader
- Educated regional shippers on Markon’s 5-Star Food Safety program
- Markon Voice and Advocate at trade shows and regional events
- Develop and improve regional grower relationships
- Work with members and Markon marketing for regional marketing programs
- Helps spread and validate Markon's food safety message
