The Role:
At General Produce, we have a tremendous opportunity for business development in the Sacramento, Roseville, and Folsom areas of California! General Produce is looking to add to our on an industry leading company an experienced and customer driven Outside Sales Representative as we expand. You will be reporting to and partnering with the Director of Food Service Sales to develop new business, build and maintain customer relationships, while maintaining and increasing sales in a open territory. This role will require significant self-motivation and a knowledge of the area to engage in business development in food service and retail fresh produce. New Account Marketing & Management:

  • Identify potential new accounts that are beneficial and profitable to the company. Maintain a weekly sales prospect funnel.
  • Call on potential new account decision-makers and present benefits/features of a General Produce relationship.
  • Regularly follow up with potential new accounts to establish relationships.
  • Perform necessary administrative duties to establish new accounts, i.e., credit approval, complete proper forms and notify appropriate departments.
  • Train new accounts on General Produce procedures including order placement, web ordering, credit/return policy and company contacts.

Customer Service and Communication:

  • Answer questions and provide information to customers in person, by telephone, e-mail, or text in response to inquiries regarding product, prices, and delivery dates.
  • Be an effective listener; investigate and resolve customer complaints regarding products, price, or service.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships at all levels, internally and externally to help increase sales and interaction related to assigned accounts
  • Receive and examine defective product returned by customers and determine, with supervisor’s approval, if credits should be granted based on Company procedures.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the products we stock and identify specific customer needs.
  • Identify and pursue new sales opportunities and new products for customers’ consideration and suggestions on how to use them.
  • Maintain awareness of market information and communicate customers’ complaints and information, and competitive conditions to supervisor.
  • Monitor and input customer orders via in person, email, web, or phone app.
