JOB FILLED - Director of Horticulture and Agricultural Chemicals - CONFIDENTIAL #7465

Job Description: 
Large vertically integrated tree fruit organization is looking to add to our team. Specifically, we are searching for a highly motivated Head Horticultural and Agricultural Chemical employee. This individual, in conjunction with our Farm Operations Manager will be responsible for all aspects of over 1,400 acres of tree fruit located throughout Central Washington. This position is a management position that reports directly to the Vice President of Operations and along with the Farm Operations Manager and is key component to the overall success of our orchards.
 
Specific Responsibilities:
  • Design, implement and execute an integrated pest management strategy for all company owned orchards both conventional and organic.
  • Determine proper products applied to orchards throughout the year in a cost effective manner.
  • Create/write all spray recommendations and supervise staff to ensure they are executed properly.
  • Monitor soil quality and make amendments as necessary.
  • Communicate accurately and effectively across a broad spectrum of individuals, which include ranch managers, farm workers, administrative staff, vendors and executive management.
  • Maintain accurate spray records and ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Enforce and follow company rules and policies in safety, food safety, pesticide safety, and good agriculture practices
  • Enforce and follow L&I and OSHA Worker Protection Standard and other state and federal worker health and safety regulations
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Good interpersonal and team-building skills with a positive attitude and ability to establish relationships
  • Knowledge of agricultural production and soil science.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills to small and large groups with an ability to lead and influence 
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred to communicate with majority Spanish speaking workforce
Requirements: 
  • Ability to work extended hours; work nights, weekends or as business needs arise during harvesting season
  • Ability to work well in a team-based environment
  • Professional, dependable, principled, and honest.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • A Washington State  Pesticide Applicator License
  • Minimum of 8+ years’  experience required
