JOB FILLED - Food Safety Specialist

Job Description: 
As a Food Safety Specialist, you will be challenged and tasked to the following:
 
Responsibilities and Essential Duties:
  • Manage food safety audits and be able to run and coordinate Primus and Organic Certification audits.
  • Implement and maintain all Food Safety related programs and standards for DLJ Produce and Pacific International Cold Storage.
  • Manage Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), independent 3rd party, customer, internal, and regulatory audits. Analyze results and gather corrective action plans for audit non-conformance. Review final results with management.
  • Follow-up promptly and thoroughly on Food Safety complaints from customers. Effectively communicate resolutions to internal and external stakeholders as needed.
  • Routinely audit food safety practices and initiatives, including over-flow food storage warehouses, for complaint with regulations with a strong emphasis on preventive measures; conduct observations of associates performing activities; implement mitigation strategies
  • Provide data to support reporting on Food Safety compliance and overall performance against food safety KPIs
  • Maintain, update, and enhance Food Safety/QA documentation so that the policies are up-to-date and technically-sound
  • Follow-up promptly and thoroughly on food safety complaints from customers; effectively communicate resolutions to internal and external stakeholders as needed
  • Handle and oversee the product recall process to ensure timely communication and execution of product recalls and completion of related documentation
  • Train and advise managers, supervisors, and employees on GMP’s and HACCP to promote continuous education.
  • Coordinate Food Safety training for managers, supervisors, and employees.
  • Ensure compliance with appropriate certification agencies and audit readiness; build external resources to keep up to date on current trends in food safety and quality
  • Provide oversight and training for maintaining the facility cleanliness and sanitation standards
  • Routinely measures operational sanitation program compliance to ensure food is received, stored, handled and transported in a food safe condition to customers and their patrons
  • Develop and implement improvement projects in the key areas of responsibility.
  • Work with suppliers on ensuring that all federal, state, and local Food Safety regulations are compliant.
  • Preform other duties assigned by manager related to your position/department.
  • Follow and continue Cal/OSHA training and education.
  • Manage the HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) plan and pre-requisite programs.
  • Follow all updates and regulations pertaining to CDC, Cal/OSHA, Federal, and State agencies pertaining impeding pandemics or health crisis related issues and maintain all company procedures and documentations.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Food Science or related field
  • Two to Four years Food Safety experience
  • Organic experience
  • HACCP & GFSI (SQF, BRC, IFS, etc.)
  • Deep knowledge of QA Assurance activities and programs
  • Current on food safety statutes and regulations
  • Basic competence in duties and tasks of supervised employees
  • Ability to work effectively with managers, employees, vendors, and customers
  • Demonstrates a high degree of professionalism in communication, attitude, and teamwork
  • Demonstrates a high level of quality work, attendance, and appearance
  • Adhere to all Company policies, procedures, and safety regulations
  • Demonstrates a high level of professionalism in dealing with confidential and sensitive issues
  • Ability to maintain effective communication in pressure situations
  • Capacity and willingness to work a flexible schedule
  • Strong, consistent problem-solving skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills in order to express ideas and convey information
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite products
  • Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred
