Summary Description
Position will be based in Santa Maria, CA.  Employee will work directly with the CGI Food Safety Department under the Food Safety Manager to fulfill Third Party Audit requirement for Facility & Growing Operations in the Santa Maria growing area, also assisting with Oxnard and Central Valley regions.  Assist and manage food safety relations for the Southern California and Central Valley Region throughout the season.
  
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Implement inspection timelines for Southern CA and Central Valley region growing/audit seasons, i.e. pre-plant, pre-harvest, pre-audit, post-audit, post-audit corrective actions for all growing operations and storage/cooling facilities.
  • Assess and conduct testing for all water sources and products throughout the season as directed.
  • Document all inspections for all designated regions.(Santa Maria and Oxnard)
  • Assess each existing grower’s current food safety program, including sanitation, facility, and cultural practices.  
    • Identify areas of improvement and practical means to achieve them. Identify areas of improvement and practical means to achieve them.  
    • Completed Food Safety Field Checklist for every visit to producing property
  • Maintain and document audits and food safety meetings with every grower and facility in designated regions(s).
  • Responsible, as directed, for execution of Third Party Audit function
    • Assist in Audit prep for growing operations and facility.
    • Schedule audits.
    • Attend and participate in audits
    • Enforce Company Food Safety Policy relative to audits.
    • Conduct and review all audit and validate testing results.
    • Monitor corrective actions and compliance status at each operation.  
      • Help operations with specific audit response Corrective Action Plans.
  • Incorporate Sustainability Practices for all operations, i.e.  Digital Food Safety Platform
  • Serve as a food safety resource for all affiliated operations in Southern CA/Central Valley Region.  Share best practices across the entire organization.
  • Participate in Internal Audit/Inspection program as extension of Company Food Safety Policy and assist with the development and maintenance of company-wide food safety manuals.
  • Support, as required, related programs including traceability, recall, and crisis management.
  • Attend Food Safety related training courses
  • Local and regional travel.
  • Responsible for cooler and packing house food safety GMP enforcement working with cooler managers.
  • Assess cooler facility and packing house to Primus GFSI to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Collect swab samples for facility and packing house as directed on the Environmental Sampling Plan.
  
Qualifications 
  • Two-year degree in food science or related field (preferred but not required)
  • Minimum 3-5 years Food Safety experience within the Agricultural Industry
  • Knowledge of GFSI Auditing Schemes, FSMA -Produce Safety Rule/ Preventative Controls for Human Food, GMPs and HACCP.
  • Preferred knowledge of Berry products (Strawberries, Blueberries, Blackberries and Raspberries)
  • Previous auditing and training experience. 
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Computer literate.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Travel to sites is required as necessary.
  • Valid Drivers License and acceptable driving record
 
Physical Requirements
The ability to sit for long periods of time; the ability to bend or stoop; the ability to work long periods on a computer workstation; and ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
