JOB FILLED - Plant Operations Manager

Job Description: 

Hearn Kirkwood, a produce processor and distributor is seeking a Plant Operations Manager. This position will be solely working within the produce processing division and overseeing Production, Maintenance, Shipping, Receiving, and Inventory departments. This role will have both day to day operational responsibilities as well as strategic planning. Due to the specifications of working with ready to eat products, candidates must have a strong food processing background!

Requirements: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, science, engineering, industrial technology, or related field preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in a process manufacturing environment, specifically within the food industry is required. 
  • Process experience in produce, prepared foods or similar industries is preferred. 
  • A minimum of five years management experience required (to include managing managers).
  • Specific knowledge and first-hand experience with industrial production processes in an edible or non-edible processing plant.
  • Ability to monitor the production processes, make necessary adjustments in scheduling and/or improve production methods/techniques to achieve company goals.
  • Knowledge and ability to implement and ensure adherence to all safety techniques and procedures related to plant operations.
  • Knowledge and ability to analyze, forecast, and plan production objectives.
  • Ability to hire, train and evaluate personnel ensuring a competent work force to meet production objectives in a cost-effective manner. 
  • Ability to develop and implement standard policies and procedures to maintain consistent daily plant operations, including S.O.P’s.
  • Knowledge in statistical process control preferred.
  • Formal knowledge in Continuous Improvement/Lean Manufacturing preferred.
Responsibilities & Duties: 

Plant Operations: 

  • Develops, implements, and maintains policies and procedures related to plant operations.
  • Directs and approves purchasing of appropriate materials/supplies in a timely manner to achieve customer and/or company time-frames.
  • Ensures production equipment/machinery is properly maintained, repaired, or replaced as necessary to maintain smooth daily plant operations.

Management: 

  • Evaluates job performance of plant personnel.
  • Controls labor costs by evaluating and strategically utilizing available personnel.
  • Conducts regular scheduled safety training to provide a safe working environment.
  • Conducts regular scheduled departmental meetings enhancing communication throughout the plant.
  • Ensures that standard operating procedures are developed, accurate and utilized for plant processes.
  • Continuous improvement champion and problem solver through formal and informal programs within the plant.
  • Analyzes, develops, and prepares the plant operating expense budget, monitoring and investigating discrepancies as situations arise.
  • Prepares weekly (yield) reports for review by senior management.
  • Provides a leadership role in the integration of efforts throughout the plant promoting a positive work atmosphere.
