JOB FILLED - Digital and Communications Associate

Job Description: 

EFI is searching for a Digital & Communications Associate who has a passion for the food system and the skills to ignite that passion in others through strategic communications and social media. The right individual will be a self-starter and able to work in an environment that demands creativity, flexibility and collaboration. Reporting to the Director of Marketing Communications with a secondary reporting line to the Executive Director for fundraising support, the Digital & Communications Associate will develop and support marketing communication and outreach strategies to EFI’s four prime audiences: growers, retailers, farmworkers and consumers. The position will oversee a digital media strategy that supports all aspects of EFI’s marketing and branding strategy to engage and grow our audiences through distinct storytelling around EFI’s impact and issue areas. In addition, the Digital & Communications Associate will provide fundraising support through the reporting and coordination of existing grants and to conduct research for new opportunities as directed.

Responsibilities & Duties: 

MarCom Support and Liaison to Workforce Development

  • Collaborate with Marketing Communications Director to support and handle projects as needed including: brand strategy, collateral development, website, storytelling, media, advertising and consumer engagement.
  • Serve as liaison between EFI Workforce Development Team and MarCom, making recommendations and handling projects to support the team’s efforts on farm.
  • Work closely with and provide guidance and training to workforce development facilitators to capture stories and images that genuinely and effectively represent EFI’s work and impact.

Digital Community Management

  • Manage social media channels, including posting regularly in Spanish and English, responding to comments and messages in a timely manner, assisting with advertising and other growth campaigns.
  • Serve as the Digital Community Manager of online group(s) for farmworkers serving on EFI Leadership Teams or other groups as they develop.
  • In collaboration with MarCom Director, create, maintain and implement editorial calendar for email newsletters, social media campaigns, and themes and messaging.
  • Create regular email newsletters for consumers.
  • Maintain website, update blog and play role in developing new digital assets as needed to support social media efforts.
  • Monitor trends and apply best practices in social and digital media.

Fundraising Support

  • Help translate stories of impact and transformation from MarCom into effective proposals and reports to donors
  • Maintain grant-reporting calendar, schedule check-ins with the Executive Director and gather timely information from department heads to create draft proposals and reports.
  • Maintain status document of deliverables from each grant.
  • Track prospective funder application due dates and proposals sent.
  • Undertake research as directed by funding strategies.

Qualifications: 
  • 2-3+ years of marketing and social media experience (preferably in a nonprofit or within the food system) managing social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, Twitter); creating related content and campaigns; monitoring channels and evaluating social media strategies; and communicating on social platforms in a consistent, on-brand voice
  • Excellent verbal and written communication (English and Spanish), organization and planning skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communication, journalism or related field
  • Use of a variety of social media publishing, content marketing development and analytical tools (e.g., Constant Contact, Hootsuite, Canva, Google Analytics)
  • Experience working for a nonprofit organization or the private sector supporting agriculture or food systems a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to work within an evolving and dynamic environment
  • Ability to facilitate group process and move swiftly to consensus outcomes
