Job Description: 

Organic farming operation is seeking a candidate responsible for managing the farming operations on a 78 acre ranch of field and protected agriculture in Thermal, CA. The Farm Manager will direct all facets of the farm operation with an emphasis on product quality, safety, profitability, worker productivity, and facility cleanliness. Successful candidate will be strong in establishing a collaborative work environment focused on building high performance teams working to execute the farm plan. Position will oversee daily operations of organic farming practices including soil and fertility management, pest control, irrigation, labor management, equipment operations, and purchasing services and supplies needed by the farm.

Requirements: 
  • Minimum of 5 years of farm management experience, including experience managing a team.
  • Have a strong agricultural background with horticultural experience, preferably organics
  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, with agronomy or crop science major/focus.
  • Proven success in managing people, teams, resources and projects.
  • Bilingual – Spanish.
  • CA DPR - Private Applicator Card or PCA license.
  • Have a good safe working knowledge of farm machinery and farm operations.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills Strong organizational, time management and project management skills.
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and ethics.
  • Ability to work 45-50 hours per week (including Saturdays).
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Develop and implement crop plans for the Farm.
  • Soil preparation, fertilization, irrigation required for maximum production.
  • Overseeing and coordinating employee activities such as planting, irrigation, pesticide application, weeding, and harvesting.
  • Maintain detailed records of crop inputs and associated costs.
  • Inspect crops or fields to determine maturity dates of crops, or to estimate potential crop damage from weather.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations as well as organic and food safety program certifications.   
  • Directs, motivates, trains, coaches and retains staff capable of meeting current and projected farm needs.
  • Assists the Director with budgeting, capital and project planning.
  • Establishes and maintains open communication with all farm staff, management, external and internal customers, and stakeholders to identify potential problems and initiate continuous improvement. Participates as a member of the management team. 
  • Communicates relevant issues, information, activities and events to the Director as requested.
  • Creates and facilitates reporting, data, meetings, and presentations as required.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned or required.
