JOB FILLED - Produce Manager

Job Description: 

The Produce Manager selects, prices and merchandises the Produce department to meet objectives for sales, margin, inventory turns and customer service. The Produce manager will possess extensive knowledge on organically and naturally grown fresh produce.

Requirements: 
  • At least 3 years experience in a retail grocery environment.
  • At least 3 years progressive managerial experience.
  • Familiarity with natural foods and produce, as well as an interest in natural foods and local agriculture.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • An ability to read, interpret, and understand financial statements.
  • Experience executing goals, effectively creating change, and increasing efficiency.
  • The ability to exercise considerable discretion and judgment consistent with the essential functions of the job.
  • A strong work history demonstrating the principles and practices of management and supervision.
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds safely.
Responsibilities & Duties: 

This position will perform functions in retail, warehouse, and office environments.

Customer Service

  • Role model excellent customer service for staff and provide excellent internal service to staff and peers.
  • Ensure that department employees provide excellent customer service and receive appropriate customer service training.
Personnel Management
  • Actively address performance and personnel issues in a timely manner.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies.
  • Complete staff evaluations properly and on time.
  • Properly document personnel matters.
Safety
  • Ensure that department displays, aisles and storage areas are in clean, orderly condition, meeting health department standards.
  • Ensure compliance with safety practices and procedures, both throughout the store and within the department.
  • Develop a culture of safety among employees.
  • Ensure appropriate safety training for all department staff.
Training
  • Identify locations where increased training is necessary and act to improve development in that area.
  • Make training recommendations to HR as necessary.
  • Ensure that all staff is thoroughly trained for the position they are filling.
Financial
  • Meet labor, sales and margin goals determined in conjunction with the General Manager.
  • Maintain working knowledge of personnel reports, margin reports, weekly sales numbers and financial goals.
  • Communicate relevant sales, margin and labor goals to staff on a regular basis.
  • Communicate standards, expectations, policy changes and product knowledge to staff.
  • Create reports and projections of payroll expenses as necessary.

Product Management

  • Negotiate with suppliers for favorable prices, terms, quality, and delivery.
  • Coordinate sale specials, demos, and utilize available advertising.
  • Evaluate suppliers and investigate new sources of supply.
  • Receive orders, or ensure proper receiving by other staff in accordance with established procedures. Keep accurate receiving records.
  • Coordinate returns and credit from suppliers where applicable. Keep accurate accounting of credit requests.
  • Review invoices for accuracy.
Merchandising
  • Plan attractive displays.
  • Conduct periodic comparisons with competitors.
  • Set prices to meet margin goals as set by Management team.
Other
  • Support the General Manager as needed.
