Job Description: 

We are currently seeking an Experienced Category Manager specializing in Asian and Hispanic Produce to join us in our headquarters located in the Inland Empire area of Southern California.

As the Category Manager you are responsible for identifying and procuring high quality product for our customer’s.  We’re looking for someone who is passionate about sourcing the best product available, creating mutually beneficial relationships with growers, and working collaboratively with others to create value for our customers and the company.

Requirements: 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field highly desired.
  • Strong analytical and negotiation abilities
  • 3+ years of experience buying and selling produce.
  • Experience in Asian and Hispanic Vegetables Highly Desired.
  • Deep understanding of the produce industry
  • Attention to detail and organization
  • Capacity to multitask to meet multiple demands and instructions coming from both the production facility and corporate headquarters
  • Strong communication skills - must have good listening skills in addition to excellent verbal and written communication abilities
  • Ability to self-motivate and problem solve in a fast-paced setting filled with hard deadlines

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Own purchasing for all produce brought into the facility
  • Ensure appropriate inventory levels of product based on production needs and perishability
  • Lead communication with inventory and operations teams to ensure proper inventory and handling
  • Monitor product yields to ensure expected usage and quality
  • Find alternative sources of short or hard-to-find product
  • Monitor produce market conditions to avoid sharp market increases and availability issues; communicate favorable purchasing opportunities to management
  • Understand application of freight and shipping to optimize cost of goods purchased
  • Analyze and own weekly food costs to stay within weekly recipe budget
  • In coordination with Quality Control, ensure incoming product meets or exceeds the recipe’s quality specifications
  • Minimize shrinkage/spoilage of perishable products; obtain credit from suppliers where applicable for returned, damaged or spoiled goods; coordinate storage of items to be returned to suppliers
  • Participate in periodic inventory counts; conduct inventories as requested by management
  • Attend weekly company meetings and review food cost summaries with the team
  • Perform other related duties as needed
