JOB FILLED - General Manager

Job Description: 

Douglas Fruit Co. is a 4th generation family business growing, packing and shipping Tree Fruit produced in the Columbia Basin of Washington State. We are seeking a General Manager of operations to become an integral part of the management team, working directly with the principals of the organization to help craft and implement short and long term strategic initiatives. The General Manager is a key executive and will supervise all phases of operations including: receiving, storage, production, quality control, maintenance, and shipping.

Requirements: 
  • At least 5 years of management and production experience
  • Produce knowledge a plus
  • Previous experience/knowledge of budgeting and expense management
  • Demonstrates strong leadership, team building and coaching skills. Along with the ability to
  • motivate and develop team member skills
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills, with the ability to balance production and customer service needs
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and listening ability (strong relational competence)
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills

  • Demonstrated ability to build coalitions
  • Bi Lingual (English/Spanish) a Plus
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Provide leadership for the successful day-to-day operation of the facility
  • Monitor bulk fruit receiving and condition standards to ensure proper storage placement during harvest
  • Develop and review established production schedules to insure customer commitments are met while operating at the highest efficiency possible
  • Work closely with quality control personnel to review product consistency while monitoring shrink rates to determine trends and areas of improvement
  • Work with shipping/logistics to manage quality and turns of packed fruit inventory
  • Analyze workforce requirements and coordinate the hiring and training of personnel
  • Monitor operational expenses and research ways to reduce costs while maintaining productivity and product quality
  • Maintain productivity levels and identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiencies
  • Maintain and support a superior food safety and preventive maintenance program
  • Develop and execute Operational and Capital Budgets
  • Conduct performance appraisals and provide coaching and guidance to all team members
  • Encourage and promote operating in a continuous improvement environment
