Job Description: 
Vegpro International Inc. is a Canadian leader for the innovation of its agricultural production of baby leaves, salad and vegetable, supplying customers in North America all year long under a well-known label, Fresh Attitude. Our pre-washed and ready-to-eat packaged  salads are available in all major grocery chains in Canada with a strong a rapidly growing presence in the US.

We have purchased approximately 700 acres of land in Coldstream and we will build a produce packing plant of 70,000 square foot state. We intend to begin operations in BC starting in the spring/early summer of 2018. We have several jobs positions to fill!

To respond to strong growth opportunities in the West, the company is seeking for a full time and experienced Agronomist.  Reporting to the Corporate General Manager, the agronomist will play a key role.

The new Agronomist will probably need to be available for training in our current division in United States (Florida) and in Canada (Quebec region).
 
The successful candidate will be an entrepreneurial individual and a self-starter with a strong work ethic and the ability to adapt to fast paced, dynamic work environment and within an organization that provides room for a long-term career growth and development.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
Support the crop production
  •         Soil sampling and fertilizer recommendations
  •         Development and execution of pest management strategies
  •         Monitor soil moisture and schedule irrigations
  •         Scout fields on a weekly basis and recommend necessary adjustments to management plans
    Provide quality control oversight on key farm operations
  •         Seed handling and cutting
  •         Planter spacing accuracy
  •         Irrigation system application uniformity
  •         Chemical application (coverage and timing)
  •         Plant tissue and soil sampling during the growing season for fertility management
  •         Test digs to estimate yields and monitor quality
  •         Monitoring of bruise-free handling during harvest as well as storage management
  •         Scouts fields for diseased plants and directs roguing crews if necessary
  •         Plant maturity evaluations, including sugar testing in the field and in storage
    Develop and conduct R&D experiments to provide insight on key production issues
  •         New variety evaluation
  •         Maximise water-user and fertilizer-use efficiency
Skills: 
  • Passion for Agriculture and fresh produce and a strong interest in promoting agriculture
  • Willingness to work flexible hours is required during high seasonal work-loads
  • Full understanding of disease, fungi and insect management required
  • Well versed in disease and weed control techniques and regulations
  • Ability to interact with customers, vendors, co-workers and management in a positive and professional manner and develop long-term working relationships
  • Ability to perform and oversee operation and maintenance of the equipment and irrigation systems
  • Results oriented and very organized, with strong attention to detail
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Spanish language is an asset
  • Proven analytical and problems solving skills
  • Negotiation and business skills including the ability to deal with landowners
  • Team player, enthusiastic and determined
  • Solid computer skills including experience with Precision Ag systems and VRT
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Power Point
  • Has a valid driver's license & a valid passport
  • Available to travel across Canada and also outside the country
Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy
  • Pesticide Certification or Training, ideally in Agriculture
  • 2-5 years field agronomy experience
  • Farm or Ag experience a MUST including equipment operation experience
  • Experience in growing organic is an asset
