JOB FILLED - Planting Department Supervisor

Job Description: 

This position requires travel between Tanimura & Antle’s farming operations in Salinas, Tres Picos, Oxnard, and Yuma. The Yuma shift, from August to November as well as the Tres Picos shift in the Fall, will be a night shift operation.

Position Reports to: 
Manager of Planing Operations. Works with: Growers, Nursery Manager, Outside Nurserires, PCA's, and T&A Production Office

Responsibilities & Duties: 

Primary - Plant Tape Supervisor
Begins each day with crew to ensure the following:

  • Correct planting location
  • Accurate plant spacing
  • Proper machine set up
  • Walks nursery on a regular basis to check plant development and readiness
  • Keeps notes on any issues or concerns seen developing in the Nursery
  • Communicates any issues with Planting Department Manager and Grower
  • Scouts future planting locations and communicates with growers ensuring that proper bed preparations have been made
  • Oversees foreman’s completion of daily Plant Tape planting reports
  • Inputs planting entries into the grower accounting program in a timely and efficient manner
  • Coordinates and executes Plant Tape field trials in conjunction with the Plant Tape USA staff
  • Works with planting department manager to produce a planting schedules for distribution to the production group
  • Works with planting department mechanics to monitor inventory of spare parts and ensures all equipment maintenance is being done as needed
  • Develops a work plan with the other supervisors, to split duties to become a more efficient operation
  • Develops leaders from within the department that will be able to rise and excel with the future growth of the program
  • Time permitting, you will support the planting department in other areas of need and as special projects develop throughout the year.
Education: 
  • High school diploma or general education degree {GED}

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

Computer Skills

  • Candidate must have good computer skills, which includes proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Ability to learn new computer skills as required
