JOB FILLED - Controller

Job Description: 
The King Fresh Family of companies Wilson Farms, River Island Fresh Cold Storage Inc., Red Lion Cherry Packers and King Fresh Marketing is seeking a self-directed, experienced Controller to undertake all aspects of financing management, including financial reporting, budget and forecast preparation, as well as development and oversight of internal control policies and procedures. You will Oversee the month-end financial close and reporting process; financial planning and analysis, budget comparison, etc. Reconciling various reports and financial data. Supervise, manage and coach a small accounting staff team and interact and support all areas of business.

Requirements: 
  • Requires thorough knowledge of general and cost accounting procedures in the agriculture industry including but not limited to growing, harvesting, cooling, & transporting.
  • Extensive Excel and General Ledger systems knowledge; FAMOUS software knowledge a plus.
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced high pressure environment, and manage long-distance functions and personnel; direct work of accounting staff to successfully meet financial deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • 5+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience.
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Manage accounting and finance department for a premier Agriculture company; develop policies, procedures and controls to ensure the integrity of the financial results including the planning, budgeting and reporting of operations. This person will be responsible to ensure the development of a scalable infrastructure to support a dynamic, growing company.
  • Supervise accounting and finance; supervise all aspects of accounting, including financial planning and analysis, cost and grower accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll. This individual will be responsible to ensure that all policies, controls, and process improvement activities are successfully completed to support operational requirements.
  • Partner with operations, to ensure accurate and effective inventory control and cost accounting processes, systems and procedures. The Controller should have an operations focus, tailoring financial reporting to support decision making. Financial information and reports should be relevant and timely.
  • Partner with COO for financial and strategic planning and audits.
  • Provide analytical and well documented reports for management team.
  • Participate in the development of and support the company’s strategic plans.
  • Prepare departmental and consolidated financial analysis and reports for presentation to both internal and external stakeholders in both GAAP and non-GAAP formats.
  • Present financial information in “dashboard” format to Owners and Managers.
  • Manage special projects including Major asset acquisitions, mergers and acquisitions.
  • The Controller will be involved in creating house and field packing charges an contracts.
  • Review and analyze potential investment opportunities based upon return on investment and fit with current and future strategic business plan.
  • Manage relationships with key financial partners.  Including, Customers, Vendors and Joint Venture Partners.
  • Maximize return and limits risk, on cash by minimizing bank balances; making investments.
  • Protect assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
  • Maintaining Asset and equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and purchase and financing techniques.
  • Monitor and confirm financial condition by conducting audits; providing information to external auditors.
  • Oversee and direct the Information Technology function.
  • Tax planning and preparation for individual and all forms of business entities, multiple property returns.
  • Complete operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results.
  • Maintain financial staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.
  • Maintain financial staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing financial reports; advising management on needed actions.
  • Evaluation and recommendation of entity selection and structure to achieve desired tax and business results.
  • Protect operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
Education: 
  • Field of Study: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or equivalent is required, CPA, CMA or MBA preferred.
Skills: 
  • Substantial accounting and finance knowledge and prior experience in a high-volume food, agriculture or manufacturing company is desired.
  • Proven track record of increased responsibility in a finance department.
  • Energetic, knowledgeable, and respectful management style.
  • Strong organizational development skills.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP, US and CA taxation rules.
  • Solid understanding of cost accounting, margin analysis and the ability to develop a system of management cost reports.
  • Knowledge and expertise in FAMOUS (Payroll & Accounting software).
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize responsibilities, meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
  • Proficiency in the English language, verbal and written and ability to communicate with team members and inter-company personnel.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, electronic mail, FAMOUS, Google Apps, Smartsheet, Evernote and other word and spreadsheet programs.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize responsibilities, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure.
  • Proficiency in the English language, verbal and written, and ability to communicate with team members and intercompany personnel in Spanish.
  • Knowledge and proficiency of Word, Excel, electronic mail, FAMOUS, and Google Docs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and comprehend complex written material such as legal documents and benefit summaries.
  • Ability to set priorities, coordinate multiple tasks and organize tasks.
  • Ability to exercise independent professional judgment.
  • This role will require travel to the company's areas of operations up to and including overnight travel as needed (travel 25% to 35% of the time).
Ideal Candidate: 
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
