JOB FILLED - Buyer - Planner IB

Job Description: 

Buyer/Planner is responsible for maintaining an adequate inventory of assigned materials to meet production needs while minimizing Company expenditures and investment.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Project usage/needs based on average monthly usage and weekly inventories using Excel, Famous or other MRP programs
  • Develop tools to evaluate average weekly usage, pars, and inventory buffers and evaluate/adjust quarterly to ensure accuracy
  • Issue purchase orders as needed to maintain minimum required inventory and create system to organize and provide back up for accounting on request
  • Follow up with vendors on status of POs and expedite as necessary
  • Assist Marketing/Sales in R&D of materials for new or changed products under direction of supervisor/manager
  • Monitor vendor performance and advise Purchasing Manager of any need for intervention and during contract negotiations
  • Advise Purchasing Manager during contract negotiations for assigned d material groups
  • Establish good working relationships with vendors and act as broker/liaison for company to obtain needed materials
  • Respond quickly to requests for information or guidance from other Company departments
  • Become a subject matter expert on assigned material groups, becoming knowledgeable of material characteristics, possibilities and limitations, market trends, innovations, potential and actual problems
  • Aide team members in the receiving, stocking and organization of purchased item as needed
  • Responds to internal requests for supplies and tracks usage of supplies to ensure cost containment and minimization of waste.
  • Seeks out opportunities to reduce cost of assigned materials and advises Purchasing Manager
  • Maintains up to date list of potential vendor contacts and requests competitive bids under the direction of Purchasing Manager
  • Conduct weekly cycle counts and monthly full counts of assigned materials.  Submit monthly counts to Accounting and reconcile difference between book and physical counts.

    • RPCs (Recyclable Plastic Containers) –for internal use and sales
    • Pallets – for internal use and sales
    • Stretch wrap
    • Ice liners
    • Corner Boards
    • Field Supplies
    • White pallet straps
    • RPC Covers and Lids
    • Pallet toppers
    • Bin Liners
    • Yellow straps
    • Carliner paper

Education: 
  • A. A. Degree from two-year college or technical school preferred; and over 1 year up to and including 3 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of: MS Outlook Communication Management software; MS Word (Word Processing) software; Internet Usage; and PC and/or MAC and Windows Usage experience required; MS Excel Spreadsheet software at an intermediate level.

Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations

  • Valid State Driver License required. Certified Forklift Driver highly desirable.

Other skills and abilities

  • Data entry skills, Negotiation skills.

  • May occasionally be asked to run local errands.
