Job Description: 
Munger Farms is dedicated to growing, harvesting and processing the safest and finest quality fruits and nuts in the world.  We are seeking a talented individual to join our experienced team as the EHS Manager for our cold storage facilities and farms in CA, OR and WA.

The EHS Manager will oversee all environmental and workplace/field safety activities on a day-to-day basis on the company’s farms and cold storage facilities in CA, OR and WA. The EHS manager will direct a EHS clerk, have recordkeeping, administrative support from HR and report to the Senior Director of Operations (cold storage) and the Senior Director of Technical Support (farms and farm shops).

  • Working knowledge of the following areas: environmental regulations, federal and state OSHA requirements, etc.
  • Must be able to handle sensitive related and proprietary information in a confidential manner.
  • Must be able to travel to remote Company locations.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and apply heavy quantities of regulations, etc., in a short time frame.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish and English is a plus.
  • Proficient computer skills in MS Office software and in EHS incident management software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; willingness to work in a team environment.
  • Good communication and recordkeeping skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English is preferred.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe and secure work environment and leading a culture of safety and accountability. This includes policy recommendations, developing training modules, coaching and counseling on the spot, correcting unsafe acts/conditions, facilitating monthly safety meetings, weekly incident reviews, performing monthly safety walk-thrus, and investigating accidents, as required.
  • Supports food safety, global gap and customer audits and the Fair Trade program.
  • Provides the direction and management of the farms and plant environmental function; understands and remains current on environmental requirements to ensure compliance.
  • Provide administration and oversight of the plant chemical process function, including anhydrous ammonia and Freon systems.
  • Provides the direction and management of farm and cold storage safety programs in order to maintain safe and healthful working conditions.
  • Develops and monitors ranch and cold storage safety rules and regulations in accordance with plant, group, and corporate guidelines, and in compliance with governmental regulations and laws in occupational safety and health.
  • Maintains farm and cold storage safety records and files.  Works with HR to maintain the safety training records.
  • Responsible for coordinating and committing resources for all emergency response measures, including those identified in the contingency plan.
  • Maintains thorough familiarity with all aspects of the contingency plan, all operations and activities at the ranches, all facilities, the location and characteristics of all chemicals and wastes handled the location of all records within the facilities, the facility layout, and evacuation routes.
  • Provides, monitors, records and maintains and archives all environmental files/records required by company policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local regulations and permits.
  • Establishes programs to minimize waste generation, properly manage wastes (including labeling, storage, and disposal).
  • Provides or causes to be provided required regulatory training on plant and ranch environmental, health and safety programs.
  • Provides, maintains and monitors all environmental, health and safety management activities including, but not limited to, MSDS files, hazard communication program, environmental educational programs, hazardous waste program, hazardous materials program, air program, storm water program, wastewater discharge programs, etc.
  • Timely and effectively communicates with Company personnel and federal, state, and local authorities on environmental, health and safety compliance issues.
  • Compiles data, prepares and submits required regulatory reports.
  • Timely responds to issues of noncompliance and complaints related to environmental and safety issues.
  • Timely advises management of any unplanned chemical releases and noncompliance situations related to environmental requirements.
  • Acts as a liaison/point of contact with environmental services, corporate safety department, local community safety organizations, neighbor associations/neighbors, regarding complaints and concerns.
  • Conducts random internal safety audits; conducts regular EHS walk-throughs of the cold storage facilities and farms, including field safety and workplace safety during harvest.
  • Prepares responses to inspections/audits and manages correction of any noted deficiencies, such as CalARP, OSHA, EPA, county regulatory programs, etc.
  • Recognizes waste streams and minimizes waste generation, through prudent use of materials, proper disposal and segregation, and provides related training to employees.
Education: 
  • Four-year degree in EHS; and minimum 2 years management experience in EHS or equivalent combination of experience, training and education.
