We are looking for an experienced and highly respected leader in the fresh produce industry who will embrace their role as a key member of the executive team while being able to work cross-functionally in a growing organization where no task is too small. We need a solutions-oriented professional with fresh perspective and ideas without the ego.
The Vice President of Procurement will be expected to effectively lead this growing team of produce buyers and QA professionals who are located remotely across the country. This produce professional must have a proven track record of success in hiring, managing and developing successful teams.
- Lead the day to day efforts of all activities for the procurement of fresh produce while being a key member of the company’s executive leadership team
- Directly manage the Procurement & QA teams located throughout the country (17 people and growing)
- Continually identify and determine optimum sources of supply
- Collaborate effectively internally and with suppliers
- Manage suppliers and internal networks to deliver best in class performance
- Consistently deliver measurable and strategic goals to enable bottom-line and top-line company growth
- Develop effective negotiation strategies to enable success
- Establish relationships with suppliers at all levels such as grower/shippers, re-packers, processors and mainline distributors
- Effectively develop and lead complex sourcing strategies both domestically and internationally
- Leverage effective business and professional relationships with strategic suppliers and industry players
- Professionally manage and measure suppliers for continuous performance and improvement
- Maintain awareness of market trends, technology and food safety
- P&L Management - budgeting, forecasting and expense control
- A minimum of 10 years of management experience in the procurement of fresh produce
- Experience sourcing fresh produce globally
- Strong knowledge of key industry players, competitors and market dynamics
- Excellent knowledge of market analysis, sourcing category strategy, supplier relationship management, negotiations and supplier continuous improvement programs
- Knowledge of critical procurement legal requirements (PACA) and contracting best practices
- Ability to influence at an executive level both internally and externally
- Experience in retail grocery strongly preferred
- P&L management experience highly desired
- Travel up to 30%
- Must be willing to reside/re-locate to South San Joaquin region of CA.
