Job Description: 

The position will supervise Quality Assurance/Control programs for the facility. This leadership position will provide effective communication with various levels of the organization, conduct training to develop staff, lead and participate in Quality process improvement projects. Position is responsible for documentation compliance and working with Corporate Quality Assurance on continuous improvement projects.

This position will be 1st shift Monday through Friday with occasional weekends. This position may require approximately 5% travel and work/maintenance coverage beyond the normal hours, shifts, and on weekends/holidays.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Promote quality by overseeing good manufacturing practices, good agricultural practices, and SOPs are followed throughout the facility.
  • As part of quality oversight, establish and lead a Quality Task force who meets weekly to discuss crop quality status, customer complaints, and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Improve development and test processes to avoid product defects.
  • Drive the identification and correction of product defects in finished packed product, inclusive of product (meeting customer grade expectations) and packaging integrity (code dates, net weights, and package appearance).
  • Administer receiving procedures to proactively safe guard purchased products. Oversee inspection of all incoming product.
  • Conduct quality audits on a periodic basis and establish corrective action timelines with management.
  • Serve as a liaison for customer and oversee customer quality audits. Make customer/market visits as required.
  • Establish a working relationship with QA/QC Managers/Supervisors at customer DCs.
  • Lead the complaint resolution process; required to investigate and lead the necessary corrective actions to mitigate quality problems. Respond to specific customer requests for quality concerns.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of standard operating procedures and inspection forms for QA/Production departments and customer profiles for our top 10 customers. Drive product quality team.
  • Document daily GMP activities. Maintain files on all required documentation.
  • Drive customer specification training throughout entire farm.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Direct Reports: QA Technician.
  • In addition to managing current direct reports; this position manages all employees of the department and is responsible for the performance management within that department.
  • Responsible for interviewing, selecting and training direct reports.
  • Is responsible for reviewing performance and administers corrective action.
  • Plans the work schedules, assigns duties, tracks absenteeism and reviews work to ensure quality standards.
  • Responsible for monitoring work for legal or regulatory compliance.
  • Observes and practices safety and housekeeping procedures at all times.
Education: 

Required:

  • Bachelor Degree in related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Office 365 Programs.
  • Previous HACCP certification program designing and implementation.
  • PCQI or HACCP certified.

Desired:

  • Effective communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to lead and motivate people.
  • Ability to work with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Food processing experience.
  • Experience in managing processes preferred.

  • Hearing –Abilities required perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Varying temperatures throughout the facility; as low as 34 degrees in coolers, warmer temperatures in other parts of the facility. Floors are level concrete. Office environment is typical, with floors of either tile or carpet.
