The Purchasing Manager is responsible for managing all purchasing of ingredients, packaging, supplies, service contractors, equipment and materials for the company and managing inventory.  The scope is broad, ranging from sourcing new vendors, vendor negotiation, placing and adjusting orders, tracking inventory, planning future purchasing, preventing spoilage, and monitoring product costs and quality.  We are a growing business with a lot of moving parts and the right candidate is comfortable with an all hands on deck environment.  The role reports to the Director of Procurement.  This is an outstanding opportunity for anyone passionate about food and committed to responsible sourcing.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Develop and implement purchasing and contract management instructions, policies, and procedures.
  • Represent UR in negotiating contracts and formulating policies with suppliers; resolve claims and grievances.
  • Work with R&D and production teams to identify and source hard-to-find products.
  • Prepare and process requisitions and purchase orders for supplies and equipment.
  • Conduct inventory counts; develop and communicate inventory management policies and track inventories using manual and computerized systems.
  • Manage receiving; ensure incoming product meets or exceeds the recipe’s quality specifications.
  • Oversee Lot Tracking procedures.
  • Lead contingency planning when availability issues are a possibility.
  • Analyze and maintain recipe food costs to stay within budget; aggressively identify and pursue cost savings against targets; optimize freight and shipping.
  • Manage team of assistant purchasing managers.
  • Attend weekly company meetings.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as assigned.
Education: 
  • BS degree in supply chain management, logistics or business administration preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish).
Skills: 
  • Working experience of vendor management software; Quickbooks experience preferred.
Qualifications: 
  • Familiarity with sourcing and vendor management.
  • A knack for negotiation and networking.
  • Ability to gather and analyze data and to work with figures.
  • Solid judgment along with decision-making skills.
  • Strong leadership capabilities.
