JOB FILLED - Production Manager

Job Description: 

Growers Express is one of the West’s finest grower/shipper of fresh vegetables, is currently looking for an Production Manager. The Production Manager reports to the Plant Manager. Production Manager is responsible for supervision of department team members, responsible for monitoring the production floor, for directing, coordinating, and executing the activities of production.

The individual in this role must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, must spend 80% of the time inside the production floor mainly focused on ensuring that the production schedule is executed in a timely manner and within all quality parameters. They will provide guidance, instruction, direction and leadership to the production group.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Ensure the safety of all employees through regular inspections and compliance with Company safety policies.
  • Plan and establish work schedules and assignments.
  • Assist manager in production sequence planning to meet production goals and provide superior customer service.
  • Complete and analyze weekly departmental performance reports.
  • Make decisions about equipment use, maintenance, modification and procurement.
  • Manage, document and implement new and improved processes and train staff for effective execution.
  • Ensure team members take scheduled breaks and lunches and finish shifts on time.
  • Address and correct employee performance issues promptly and effectively.
  • Ensure employees work in a safe manner, that equipment is properly maintained to operate safely and that hazards are promptly identified and corrected.  
  • Inspect materials, products and equipment to detect defects or malfunctions.
  • Request materials, supplies, equipment parts or repair services.
  • Participate in Operations staff meetings and weekly tailgate meetings    
  • Train new employees and coach existing employees.
  • Investigate and report all incidents (accidents, poor performance, EE Complaints.)    
  • Ensure efficient collaboration and co-ordination between relevant departments including procurement, distribution and management, suggest cost-saving ideas.
  • Perform related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates.  
  • Ensure that production schedule is completed on time.  
  • Ensure that product is prepped and packed as directed.  
  • Oversee the night shift operation for extended periods of time as directed by the Plant Manager.
  • Any other duties assigned.

  • 3-5 years of experience preferred.
  • Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules.  
  • Must be able to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Must be bilingual (English/Spanish preferred but not required).  
  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
  • Solid understanding of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook).  

Physical Demands:

  • Job require working outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions.
  • Willing and able to work long hours and be available nights and/or weekends as required by the business needs.
  • Working exposed to contaminants (such as pollutants, gases, dust or odors).
  • This job requires working in constant cold temperature (below 32 degrees).
  • Standing/walking, crouching, stooping, twisting, balancing, leg/foot use, reaching, overhead extension, handling, pushing/pulling.

Tools and Equipment Required:

  • Be visually alert and aware of surroundings at all times specially when transferring product.
  • Requires occasional climbing of machines, assisting with machine set-up or closure.
  • Requires supplying with packaging material/supplies manually or with the use of a forklift.
  • Operate company vehicles (utility trucks) on public and private roads.
