Job Description: 
We have an opening for an experienced Produce Buyer / Sourcing Specialist in the area of Produce Procurement. This role will be based at our office in Phoenix, Arizona. The qualified candidate will play an integral role in the success of the Sobeys organization and our banners across Canada by enhancing our strategic alignment and quality offerings in produce. The role will augment activities in Canada and be an important contributor to our success in import and offshore produce.

Requirements: 
  • 5 or more years experience in Produce Procurement
  • 4-year college degree preferred
  • Retail store and or backstage experience
  • Extensive produce industry and vendor base knowledge to include growing areas, commodities, market conditions and applicable regulations
  • Superior negotiation skills to include in depth experience in supplier alignment and multi level contract agreements
  • Strong computer and systems skills to include Microsoft office
  • Experience with iTrade OMS platform and reporting functions
  • Excellent interpersonal and team collaboration skills
  • High degree of initiative and sense of urgency
  • Service oriented, helpful and supportive
  • Bilingual English/French, Spanish a plus
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Establish vendor alignment programs; engage strategic acreage planning in accordance with national and regional strategies.
  • Provide feedback and projections on commodity opportunity, quality conditions, product cost components and weather related impact.
  • ollaborate with quality control staff to develop vendor base and maintain Sobeys quality standards.
  • Responsible for guiding vendor selection, managing specific commodity purchase orders in support of regionally issued transactions.
  • Engaged to achieve the lowest cost possible within a prescribed quality standard for promotional, regular, spot and contractual negotiation.
  • Focused on creating commodity opportunity to drive growth and to support the company financial targets.
  • Interact and collaborate with logistics, vendor, and quality control, national and regional teams to maximize these relationships and drive optimal service to the regional warehouses.
  • Partner to drive category and operational innovation to benefit the business.
  • Maintain program, initiative, policy and procedure compliance.
