JOB FILLED - Food Safety Manager

Job Description: 
The Food Safety Manager supervises the Food Safety and Sanitation Department’s employees while also ensuring that the food safety system at the plant is properly written, documented, and implemented - thus ensuring regulatory compliance (HACCP, FDA, GFS Primus) and the production of safe, quality, and wholesome produce. Overall responsibility for food safety, quality and USDA Organic and compliance.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • The Food Safety Manager maintains and supervises all Food Safety and USDA Organic compliance.
  • Must be a hands-on manager that is able to train and demonstrate how to effectively coach and train the food safety staff.
  • The Food Safety Manager ensures that all Food Safety programs are functioning as designed, being followed by all appropriate personnel, and also being correctly documented.  Further, that all programs in place are valid and following all legal as well as audit format requirements.
  • The Food Safety Manager must be able to quickly, yet thoroughly, investigate a product/process failure to determine the root cause as well as what corrective actions are needed.
  • The Food Safety Manager must be thoroughly versed in 3rd party Food Safety Audits as well as be prepared to be the primary contact for all audit events as well as  handling the collection of  3rd party documentation.
  • Must quickly gain an understanding of all of our safety policies and procedures and be able to express those policies to others as needed.
  • The Food Safety Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the cleanliness and safety of the warehouse is maintained.
  • Must work collaboratively with the other managers to accomplish the goals of the department.
  • Excellent communication skills with internal and external customers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: 
  • Degree in Food Sciences, Agricultural food Science or other applicable discipline is preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of related experience in a food processing environment. At least three years of supervisory experience.
  • Must demonstrate proficient PC skills.
  • Must demonstrate exceptional oral and written communication skills. Bi-lingual preferred.
  • Experience working with relational databases, statistical programs, and other tools to compile and interpret quantitative data.
  • Experience with audits such as GFSI (PRIMUS) FDA,, USDA Organic and etc.
  • Expert knowledge developing/implementing SOP’s, SSOP’s, HACCP, and GMP’s.
  • Must be familiar with environmental (microbiological) requirements/testing procedures and trace- back/recall program.
  • Experience in the fresh fruit/vegetable industry or food experience strongly preferred.
